Re: i want to euthanize my dog. ur thoughts?

My last note here was in Sept. I never, ever thought she would make it to her 14th birthday in april. I certainly didn't count on he making it thru the winter and it was a terribly cold, miserable winter this year. But we took each day as it came. Over time she became weaker, but she was still there...

Re: How do you know when it's time?

I just wanted to add that the day she died, she was seemingly ok in the morning. my husband took her out to pee--we knew for a while that she could not pee without our help and that was, we found out, causing her some distress. My husband figured out a way of putting her over a tank--like the ones t...

Re: How do you know when it's time? update

My yellow lab, Vera, stopped walking with back end after her 12th bd in april of 2012. It has been a long long journey since then, but we managed to keep her alive and happy as much as possible. We had to put her to sleep on May 12, 2014. WE ARE still grieving over her, but I am glad we did what we ...

Re: Has anyone here ever had a senior dog require surgery?

Thanks so much for your replies. I may try the fan but she is quiet for a moment so I don't want to disturb her. It's better is she thinks we went out, so eventually she'll settle down, I hope. I do keep music running on the TV all night for her. We have been seriously considering putting her down t...

Re: Has anyone here ever had a senior dog require surgery?

I am adding a post note to my previous note. As I said my dog was about 11 her one toe was removed. She is now 13½. Pretty much toward the end of her life. She did well until she lost the use of her back legs 1 ½ years ago about a year past the surgery. It has not been easy taking care of her but sh...

Re: How do you know when it's time?

Thank you for your replies. I am on my phone now so I won't write too much now. She is actually eating well now that I give her people food. I hide some of her dog food in her dish and she does eat it. Mentally she is quite with it. My daughter came home to visit and Could not believe how responsive...

Re: i want to euthanize my dog. ur thoughts?

I wrote my story awhile ago somewhere on this site, but haven't located it yet. I really empathize with you. My dog is my love and she is about 13.5 yrs. She was unable to walk shortly after her 12thBD last year. I struggle everyday with what to do. I never thought she would make it to this point. M...

Re: Fur/skin problems

Thanks for the information. Right now I'm hooked on the tumeric! Here hot spot area is grown in with hair now. As I have written elsewhere she is close to the end of her life so I just treat each issue as it comes along within reason. I use cranberry powder to hopefully avert a urinary tract infecti...

Not sure wheels will work. Is there another solution

Last year when my Yellow 12 yr old lab was unable to use her back feet, I (i.e. my dog) tried out a wheelchair on craig's list. It was an older model, but I didn't get it b/c I saw the problems for my dog. She wanted to sit down in the worse way and the device wouldn't let her. She is not one of tho...

Re: Fur/skin problems

Just went thru this. My 13 yr old lab developed a spot next to her right eye. I didn't know what it was. It started small with a small cut, it looked like. I put antibiotic cream on it. The cut disappeared but the area got bigger and leathery with no hair. It was like one of those spots where the do...

Re: Has anyone here ever had a senior dog require surgery?

Three summers ago my Lab who was 11 at the time had some kind of problem with her nail, we thought. The foot got worse and we would tend to it daily over several months. My vet was himself having surgery so when the nail and toe did not seem to heal, we took it her to someone covering for our vet wh...

Re: How do you know when it's time?

We struggle with this everyday. My yellow lab, Vera, turned 13 in April of 2013. She lost her ability to use her back legs when she turned 12, one year ago. She is not sick. She hears well, sees well, eats well, does not pee in the house, sometimes has poop accidents if we do not catch her cues, and...
