Re: Goodbye Snowy.....

My thanks to everyone for their kindness and compassion. My heart just hurts right now, as Snowy was my constant companion. She helped me 'raise' my other dogs and was always so sweet. She was a true shepherd in every way. I know that (hopefully soon) the pain of losing her will be replaced with all...

Re: Goodbye Snowy.....

I want to thank everyone for their compassion, and also to let you know that we never left Snowy alone, but I think her leg broke when I was trying to help her up! I am racked with guilt for not knowing what was going on, but I can't go there for long. She had a wonderful life with us, and her spiri...

Goodbye Snowy.....

Yesterday we had to make the very difficult decision of letting Snowy go. Snowy has been having mobility issues since July, and when she faltered on Wednesday night I knew something was VERY wrong. She could no longer stand at all. My first thought was her spinal issues had worsened. But it was some...

Re: How Many Big Dogs in Carts are Here?

Joanne and Christine: I certainly didn't mean to overshadow your dog's abilities! I think it is amazing to hear just how much dogs can do. They have no idea they shouldn't and so they just keep trying!

Re: How Many Big Dogs in Carts are Here?

I have a white German Shepherd dog (Snowy)and although she is not in a chair, I would be very interested in just how you got your dog comfortable in the chair, how long it is IN the chair for each session, and also how your dog 'relaxes' when not in the chair. I know that my beautiful girl may one d...

CHAT ROOM Poll

I have been a long time member of this board, and the one thing that I think would be great to have is a CHAT ROOM! I have used Chatzy before for groups of people on my personal website, and there are tons of other chat room providers (html code) that can be used. I know the boards are great for his...

Re: How does the rear harness support?

How does the harness that is provided with the walkin' wheels support the dog? Meaning - where is the pressure on the dog? On the belly? On the Hip sockets? Secondly, can the harness be left on during the day so that the wheels can easily be attached when we want to go outside? I don't think we cou...

Re: How do you teach the dog to use the cart?

Thank you for posting such great information so quickly. I have been watching the videos and reading the manuals. Now all I need to do is measure my sweet girl. She has such a JEST for life, that it would be tragic for her not to be mobile.

:thankyou:

Re: What about resting while in the wheelchair?

Bobbie: thank you for the information. I will be reading all the posts I can about wheelchairs, since I am sure that Snowy is close to needing one soon. I am going to measure her today, etc so if you have any helpful hints, please point me in the right direction so I can get a good fit for her the f...

Re: How do deal with people

I have read and reread through this post and can't stand how INSENSITIVE people are to those of us who respect LIFE!! I was also told the same things: Snowy is an OLD dog, I would have put her down. And to that I say: "WELL, thanks for that insight on how you respect life, remind me NEVER to pu...

Re: How do you teach the dog to use the cart?

I was glad to see this post. I am going to have get my 14yr old GSD used to a chair soon, and I am trying to get up to speed before the need arises. Thanks for all the great information.

Re: Can't figure it out ...

I would think that this is attributed more to a 'relaxation state' where she just 'releases her bladder when she is relaxed. I am not a vet, but I have seen this happen to my girl with back problems even when she 'barks'. And if Snowy is sleeping, she tends to be incontinent occasionally too. (of co...

Re: What about resting while in the wheelchair?

Just an idea: if you have a 'larger' dog why not have a papason pillow or even a bean bag chair that they could 'pull into'. I am going to be struggling with this very same problem once Snowy is wheelchair bound. I am trying to plan for this situation myself so she can nap on her own.

Puppy picture looks GREAT!

I'm glad my (basic) instructions on how to post pictures helped you!! Your puppy is gorgeous! Also... about the meds.. makes sure your VET is in agreement. I am not a vet, but I have done research for years and when I read some of the side effects of the (well meaning) drugs we have to use, I always...

Accupunture!

Kathy!! That is great news!! I am a strong proponent of accupunture. How great! Talk to your accupunturist about herbal too! Snowy has been on a blend called HINDQUARTER WEAKNESS and I truly believe this has helped her tremendously. Dr. Xie has TCVM Herbal and there is a website for your vet to orde...
