Re: Need something TODAY that will knock out the Highway 170

If you can't get a have-a-heart trap, a large dog carrier might work, as long as you can close the door quickly, before he can get out.

Re: Need something TODAY that will knock out the Highway 170

I would think that a better solution would be to purchase or borrow a have-a-heart trap, put some food in it, wait for him to go in, then just put the whole trap, with the dog in it, in a pickup truck or back seat of a car. That way there is no need for sedation or the risks involved with it.

Re: Need something TODAY that will knock out the Highway 170

Regular tylenol is just acetaminophen, which is toxic to dogs. Tylenol PM is a combination of acetaminophen and diphenhydramine hydrochloride. The diphenhydramine hydrochloride is the part that makes you sleepy. Diphenhydramine hydrochloride is the same ingredient in benadryl and various sleep aids....

Tuxedo is doing better (misdiagnosis?)

Tuxedo is doing better. I am posting this on multiple forums, since he has previously been diagnosed with diabetes (for 4 or 5 years until 3 weeks ago), and more recently moderate kidney failure, severe highly regenerative anemia, and suspected bone marrow leukemia, and some or all of it may be rela...

Re: Good News!

I am a little late on this one, but to prevent future injury, instead of wrapping the saddle in gauze, you might try "mole skin", which is thin, but extremely soft and non-abbrasive. You can usually find it in the grocery or drug store near all of the foot stuff. It is commonly used to cushion irrit...

Re: Are cats spayed

llynbob, I would keep them in separate rooms any time that you are not home and awake, until it gets settled. I don't know the layout of your house, so it is up to you to decide who goes where. Although it seems like the offender should be the one who gets confined, or you could alternate, I have fo...

Re: Tuxedo is at the emergency vet

Tuxedo is doing a little better today. His condition, the suspected diagnosis, and recommended course of treatment keep changing. Since his recent problems have been with diabetes, kidney failure, anemia, and suspected cancer, I have posted on various forums. I have received a lot of emails indicati...

Re: Tuxedo is at the emergency vet

I am having a very difficult time obtaining blood and a transfusion for Tuxedo. I have been shuttling Tuxedo back and forth between the day vet and the night and weekend emergency vet clinic. Last Sunday, the vet at the night and weekend clinic said they could order blood for the transfusion once hi...

Re: Tuxedo is at the emergency vet

Thanks to everyone for their responses and suggestions. This is a combined response to various responses on multiple forums and emails. I spoke to the vet again today. She said that, based on the results of all of the various tests, Tuxedo most likely has some sort of bone marrow leukemia that is ca...

Re: Tuxedo is at the emergency vet

I just got a call from the vet. She got the results of most of the latest tests, including something called a reticulocite count. She said that he has highly regenerative anemia. She said that means that his bone marrow is producing red blood cells extremely rapidly, but something is killing them fa...

Dianne,

I'm so sorry for your loss. It sounds like you did the best you could for him and he went as peacefully as one could hope.

Re: Tuxedo is at the emergency vet

Tuxedo is home for the night. He goes back to the day vet tomorrow for more i.v. fluids. The vet ordered some epogen (procrit) that is supposed to stimulate the bone marrow to produce red blood cells. I don't know yet how soon it will be available. I am also awaiting the results of a test to determi...

Re: Tuxedo is at the emergency vet

I went to visit today. He is still critical. He is getting i.v. fluids and science diet k/d. While I was there, he ate a little and urinated. He is alert and responsive, but lethargic. He was not bothering the i.v catheter, so they did not have an elizabethan collar on him. They will be leaving the ...

Tuxedo is at the emergency vet

Tuxedo is at the emergency vet and expected to be there until Monday morning, then I will go and get him and transfer him to my regular vet. After 4 or 5 years of twice daily insulin injections, it appeared he had ceased being diabetic. His blood glucose was between 141 and 177 without insulin for a...

Re: Old cat w/chronic sinus discharge

There are so many things that it could be. It could be due to a an allergy to food or something else or dental problems or a sinus infection or a tumor anywhere in the head or any number of other things. Sometimes such things will get better and sometimes they will get worse. In early stages it can ...
