Re: Sucky's neurological damage

ivermectin is neurotoxic and the safety window is very narrow for cats. I'm very sorry your cat has had toxicity from it. I see CarolC (the link lady) posted a link to my girl Mimosa's page. She was the most severely brain damaged cat I had and at first coudl not stand, see or hear (hers was an anes...

Re: Kitten deformed hind legs - in NY shelter

he can have a fine life. My girl two bit had no back legs, well ok she had a little flipper she used to scratch an ear. She ran around looking something like a mutant shrimp, she climbed, she jumped, she was amazing. My current two and a half legger, Shrimpie (he is buff colored and looks even more ...

Re: Kitten deformed hind legs - in NY shelter

finger braces may be too large, if you can straighten the kitten's legs as much as possible and wrap them in gauze and vetwrap, that is what I did for Bendy. Stretching the legs several times a day will be good physical therapy. Sometimes you get tendon contractures that cause things like that rathe...

Re: Starting to get diaper rash/sores

roundworms take mutliple treatments to kill, anyone working with animals should know that. Roundworms actually migrate through the body, the wormer kills the ones in the intestines, so you have to do repeated treatments. I usually treat anything that has been outside every other week for three treat...

Re: Starting to get diaper rash/sores

they should have caught the roundworms and I use the strongid paste for horses for my cats. I give them a blob about the size of a pea. it's a #### of a lot cheaper, my vets know i do this and are cool with it. they told me "you could bathe them in strongid and it woudln't hurt them" If you look to ...

Re: Starting to get diaper rash/sores

tapeworms don't show up on the tests they do, they are looking for eggs of other worms, or microscopic bits of worms, which tapes don't give off. YOu only know you have tapeworms when you see a wiggly bit. fortunately they aer easy to see. They get tapes from fleas, the fleas carry the eggs. Just ea...

Re: Starting to get diaper rash/sores

Yeah some vets are judgemental pricks when it comes to our special needs gang. $50 is a reasonable fee, actually. The average cost of a kitten around here, to a rescue, for teh vetting and care is usually close to $200. no one in rescue makes a buck, unless you are the HSUS but that's because they d...

Re: Starting to get diaper rash/sores

Black Cherry was spayed without a problem. The incision is up high enough it wasn't much of an issue. I kept her diaper free and confined until the spay site healed, which she wasn't thrilled about but I figured was safest. I always confine them for 48 hours after spay anyway just to make sure every...

Re: Starting to get diaper rash/sores

i would say "I do not feel comfortable with this vet spaying her. I see a lot of bad reviews on line and I will take her here (name of place) instead. I will send you proof of spay, but I want to make sure she is done right and will get the best care. I tend to tell people what we're doing rather th...

Re: Starting to get diaper rash/sores

I use disposable diapers. I have little pants of various kinds I often put over the diapers, and the incontinence pads are washable. i don't even want to think about washing diapers, I have too much cat laundry already. I use Arm and Hammer for sensitive skin when I machien wash. Tide makes me itch ...

Re: Starting to get diaper rash/sores

This will sound terrible but I have seen a lot of vets who work with rescues miss some very obvious stuff. I don't know if they are just seeing so many animals they aren't looking closely or what is going on. Butterbean had stayed with a vet before coming to me who missed his UTI. Yeah he is a chara...

Re: Starting to get diaper rash/sores

i don't bother with litterboxes for my diaper kids, Cherry acts like soemtimes she knows she is going but not often enough. Hopper I just squeeze out a couple times a day and I clean up small accidents. i also have puppy pads all over on her favorite spots. She seems to scald far more easily than an...

Re: Starting to get diaper rash/sores

I use the oatmeal pet shampoo from Dollar General :) it's $3 a bottle and sometimes on sale for $2.50, I have also gotten pet shampoo from Dollar Tree although I don't like that as much. Tropiclean makes an excellent shampoo, but it's pricey. I definitley need some kind of shampoo for Bean and Cherr...

Re: Starting to get diaper rash/sores

Open the pictures using some photo editor and shrink them, then do a "save as" and save it under a different name, that way you keep the original. .jpg is usually the best for memory if you can change the file type. cat coats come in all lengths. It takes a longhair cat two years to really come into...

Re: Starting to get diaper rash/sores

If you can express her three or four times a day that would be awesome. I generally express them twice a day. Longhair is more challenging. The fur holds the urine, so keeping her hind end clipped is going to be necessary. Cherry is a medium hair and while I was sick her fur got long, and I couldn't...
