Re: spinal anureism

Hi Kat, You mentioned that you live rural, no sidewalks, and you are investigating getting a cart. In this respect, it's good that he's a big dog because the cart they make for him will have really big wheels and rough pasture will be no challenge. It's the small dogs that get carts with little whee...

Re: Special care for 3-legged Rottie?

Hi Brianna, The physical therapist showed me an exercise for overused front legs. You take the front paw and pull the foreleg up across the bridge of the nose, stretching the muscles.

Re: amputed back leg on 16 year old cat

She'd probably appreciate being scratched and rubbed a little extra in the spots she can no longer reach.

Thanks for All the Suggestions

We've been using a 7 foot long hand crocheted winter neck scarf for a sling. Lately she's been walking out of it in her eagerness if I don't tie it around her waist. It tends to settle as far back on her waist as it can, stopping at the hips. She has bone cement to stabilize her back, and I was told...

Re: HELP getting worse!!!!!!!!!!!

Johanna, hang in there, it isn't always going to be like this. You're just so tired, that's all, and no wonder. Steroids cause water retention, so that is partly why he is peeing so much. If you express him like Critters says, then he will pee on your schedule and not his. He will feel better too. I...

No Fair!--All the Slings Are For Big Dogs

I've looked at all the websites I know of and can't find a sling for a chihuahua. Obviously, it needs to have really long handles. And it needs to fit her trim waist or she will walk out of it. Her injury was mid-back and someone on this bulletin board warned about supporting the dog's midsection be...

Re: paralyzred doxi with rug burn

Hi Johanna, If you go to the website link below and click on Accessories, the second page shows a little suit to protect the skin when scooting around. You probably couldn't order one and receive it any faster than the cart, but maybe it will give you an idea? What about a little fleecy baby creeper...

Express Method From Behind

Dawna, I didn't have any luck with this method, but I witnessed a vet do it with great success, so will describe it anyway. He put my small dog on the examining table facing long-ways, and had a towel under her back feet. He stood behind her so they were both facing the same direction. He places his...

Express Method Standing at Right Angles

You can put a pad on the bathroom counter and express a small animal if you're careful about the edge. I stand with my legs against the counter so there's no space for her feet to slip off, and put her on the counter with her head to my right and her tail to my left. I hold her in a standing positio...

Express Method Head Over Tail

Dawna, I know of three methods to express, and the one you use is similar to one I use with my 7 lb female dog. I put a pad on the floor, then kneel down on all fours over her so my head is over her tail and her head is peaking out behind me under my bottom. This helps keep her from walking off left...

Expressing Cat Question for Bendy

Since both of my incontinent pets have been dogs, I have a question about cats. Where do you express your cat? Over the sink, onto a pad, standing in the litter box, outside, or somewhere else? I'm thinking a kitty might be most comfortable in the nice, clean litter box, but if she's really struggli...

Re: Please Help: Advice on Expressing a Cat

Dawna, I can give you exhaustive detail on expressing my 7-lb. female dog, if it would help. Is your kitty overweight? Can you feel her bladder quite well? Are you using one hand on her abdomen or two? Are you standing at right angles to her? Or behind her facing the same direction she is? Or squatt...

Sorry-More Questions

Is there any chance she is pregnant, or is she fixed? Can you say for sure she is not constipated? Does she tense her back legs when you try, or appear to be having muscle spasms? Any chance she might have a urinary tract infection?

Here's a picture of a ski cart for your husband to look at to get ideas. I've seen another picture somewhere.
