Re: Other: Yorkie with Damaged Spinal Cord
Veronica: I have a one year old pit bull Jack who I got from a woman who was being deployed to Iraq when he was about 7 months old. Jack was born with partial paralysis of his hind legs--it affected his thoracic and lumbar area. He could not stand to poop or pee. I got him a wheel chair in January a...

Re: Dogs: PARALISED HIND LEGS TO TO DISC DAMAGE AND CONGENIT
Naomi: I have a pit bull Jack who was born with partial paralysis of his rear legs. He could not stand to pee or poop and I have a wheel chair for him. He has been in physical therapy since beginning of March and he is able to go on walks and even runs (bunny hops with his back legs). He is on the t...

Re: Help Needed: Dog Brace vs. TPLO Surgery
Linda: I had a pitbull mix (around 70# and 12 years old) when Quincy was diagnosed with a torn cruciate ligament. The vet recommended against surgery because of his age and the length of time for rehab. We did put him on Cosequin (glucosamine + chondrotin) and Rimadyl. This helped him a lot and he w...

Re: Urinary: Express a cat bladder
Deb: You are not being selfish wanting him home and you can learn to express his bladder. There are links on this website. I have a cat with paralyzed back legs whom I have had for four years in August. Simon was born with severe congenital deformities and I express his bladder three times a day. I ...

Re: That's cool that you have 2
Carol: I actually have more than two with physical deformities. Simon is the most severe. He has no deep pain sensation in his legs and they are rigid sticking out toward his left side. The bones grow but he has no muscle mass. He also has deformities of his spinal column which has a hump around the...

Re: Help Needed: Advice and Help for Lilly Kitten
I have a cat named Simon who I got in Aug. 2002 from the Friends of Rifle Animal SHelter in Colorado (he was on the Pets with Disabilities network). They initially thought his back was broken, however, I had Simon radiographed and he was born with severe deformities and is paralyzed in the back legs...

Re: Cats: Handicapped Litter Box
You may want to try the litter boxes that they make for dogs. One of the sides is lower about an inch from the floor and open. I have bought one at PETCO and PETSMart. Diana

Help Needed: Cat with no back feet
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to help a cat with stumps where her back feet should be. Are there protective booties or ones that can be made. Also what about the litter box. I understand the litter irritates her back stumps. Thanks Diana

Carol:
I use fluids in the bag and the IV drip set. I also use 18 gauge needles (the fluids go faster) and at the vet clinic they told me they use 16 gauge. Diana

Re: Cats: Sick Older cat, need advice
You should have a full blood panel and UA done. Cats this age can have kidney disease, diabetes or hyperthryroidism. Did the vet feel anything upon palpating the abdomen? What about the cat's mouth/teeth---has the cat ever had a dental? Why did the vet give Batryil to begin with. DIana

Re: Help Needed: Kitten hit by car, no function in front leg
I had a 7 month old kitten that I adopted from the shelter I volunteer at; they were going to euthanize her if I didn't adopt her. She was somewhat feral and had caught her forearm in the cage door at the shelter and pulled so hard that I believe she damaged the nerves to that arm ( I believe it's c...
