Re: Sammy Update

I want to add that any information I provide is based on my personal experience and I would never mean to offend anyone. But with the limited information I have on your dog and based on the experiences I have had, my humble opinion is meant to be just that an opinion. Hearing about a big dog that is...

Re: Sammy Update

Heather.... after reading your last post and wanted to ask if you have had a complete bloodpanel done on Sammy recently? I would check the liver enzymes (ALKP, ALT, etc) to make sure that her liver is functioning up to snuff. With all the antibiotics and other antinflammtory drugs she (could) be get...

Re: Sammy Update

I'm glad to hear of the progress Sammy is making. Seems they all progress at their own pace. Snowy is sleeping through the night now too (WHEW) and that is a relief, of course "I" don't sleep through the night, but she does. Don't forget the 'probiotics' when antibiotics are prescribed. LI...

Re: Does anyone know why my dog cannot move his hind legs???

First let me say that some dogs can handle ALOT of pain without complaining. Snowy's spine was hemmoraging and she never showed a HINT Of pain. Xrays won't show most problems, so a visit to a neurologist would be recommended. I am no expert in this area, but the sooner you know what is going on, the...

Re: Snowy three weeks after her episode

I am using a walk-a-bout harness to help Snowy move around.

The neurologist recommended that we NOT get a cart for Snowy, since she showed such remarkable 'movement' after her surgery.

She truly is a amazing.

Re: New here - getting prepared for a post-op doggie patient

This is a wonderful group. Very supportive, GREAT information and plenty of people with similar situations that WILL help you through your experiences. Before your dog comes home, it is important that you have a proper place for him to recouperate, rest and be safe. If you don't have a crate, you ne...

Snowy three weeks after her episode

I wanted to update everyone on how WELL I believe Snowy is doing. Three weeks after her episode that rendered her paralysed she is able to ALMOST stand on her own, she is wagging her tail and can support her weight for a few minutes at a time. I am so blessed that she is such a strong dog, and I wil...

Re: Update on Duke from Reno - FINALLY!

I am new here, but I am really glad to hear such a success story. Even though your dog is so small compared to my 65 pound german shepherd, but she too is making much progress. I am THRILLED to hear such great stories, thank you SO much for sharing!! I hope to have such a success story myself! Angel...

Re: HARNESS IDEAS FOR DOG WHEELCHAIR

I agree with you Carol... it is best to rule OUT what it isn't before continuing with treatment (or no treatment). I took a look at the Hartman Harness, and it is quite impressive, but when they have surgery, the strap going down the back would be RIGHT on the incision. So that was not going to work...

Re: HARNESS IDEAS FOR DOG WHEELCHAIR

I am so sorry to hear about your dogs condition. I want to tell you that I highly recommend the walk-a-bout harness. Just be VERY sure to measure 'around' his leg so the opening for his leg is large enough to prevent chafing. Better for the leg opening to be slightly LARGER than too small. I have a ...

Re: Roxy's story helping others

Roxy's story WILL help others! I only hope MORE people find the information on this website so they too can learn how to handle these conditions. I didn't receive very much information either, and as I stated before, even the ER vet didn't hold much promise, OR information or help for that matter. B...

Re: POLL: Harley, Snowy, and activity

I totally understand how worried you are. I for one am worried that Snowy is trying to do TOO much TOO soon. And since she is such a willful German Shepherd, it is going to be VERY difficult to keep her calm, God willing, once she is able to get around on her own. Now.. just to make matter even MORE...

Re: 8 yr old boxer with thoracic discospondylosis

I'm sure all of us know (and have felt) the pain, hurt, frustration and fear about your dogs condition. http://www.tamu.edu/univrel/aggiedaily/news/stories/04/081204-4.html The link above has some information (perhaps straight forward) on your dogs condition. I did a 'google' search for canine IVDD ...

Re: 8 yr old boxer with thoracic discospondylosis

I would also recommend that you look into getting a wheelchair for your dog AND perhaps another consult with another specialist. Although Rimadyl provides pain management there are MANY other complications associated with prolonged use of this medication (and sometime short term use of this med). If...
