Re: Heart Disease and now IVDD..surgery or wheels?

I'd go with the cart. Surgery on a 12 year old is risky, and if you know she has heart disease, more risky. The question is whether you can handle the cart and what else it involves- if you can, that's a good option.

Re: Post Surgery Second Thoughts

I'd get him a four-wheel cart so he can be moving more of the time than just in PT. Walking (even if most of it is you pulling the cart) stimulates the limbs to normal movement and can help. It's kind of like water treadmill in that his body is supported but his legs can move. Ask your PT about it a...

Try putting a small fan on him at night. We don't know why, but it seems to help with nightime anxiety.

Re: Spinal Subluxation at T13-L1

Carol is absolutely correct that you can't judge your future life by the past week. Here's a day in the life with Oliver. (And I had another paraplegic in a cart when I got him- Candy died in 2013 after 9 1/2 years as a paraplegic.) AM- one of us wakes up first, usually me. I get up, go to the bathr...

Re: Spinal Subluxation at T13-L1

Okay- let me start near the end. Large dogs do FINE in carts. One climbed Mt. Washington. The major differences between large and small dogs is that small dogs can use the cart in the house and usually large dogs can't unless your house is very open. With larger dogs putting them into the cart can b...

Re: Information about using Deramaxx

Deramaxx is an antiinflammatory agent- I'm surprised for a muscle spasm he didn't give her something like Robaxin. I'd stop giving it if you are seeing a side effect that could be related to kidneys, and before you give it anymore get some blood work done to make sure liver and kidneys are okay.

Nope- no way to buy add-on items unless you have $25 in your cart. Annoying as ####.

Re: Vet can't express bladder but I can

I think she may tense up some for other people. It doesn't take much tension to keep the bladder from releasing.

Re: Could use some advice

In my experience, if one dog is sick, the others know it. I think if a dog were suddenly injured and died, I'd show the others, but I don't think they need to be told or shown if they knew the dog was sick. Mine have never acted confused when they had been around the other dog.

Re: Desp 4 advice pls!! Dog has osteosarcoma, Vet dsnt rec a

He probably couldn't' use a wheelchair at first but once the incision heals he could. I'd suggest calling and talking to the folks at Eddies Wheels-they seem to do the most front wheel carts- and maybe one or two other companies and see what they think. A smaller dog can get by with nothing but not ...

Re: Desp 4 advice pls!! Dog has osteosarcoma, Vet dsnt rec a

I have no idea- I have never heard of any dog with bone cancer getting 5-7 years; more often it is 1-2 and then lung cancer. But you might go find another oncologist and get a second opinion. If the second one agrees you'll have peace of mind and if not, you will have options.

Is she spayed? If not pyometra would be a concern, but I'm assuming she is.

Re: sounds when expressing

I imagine that the vagina can have gas, but it probably normally doesn't. The gut does because we swallow air, and because we have bacteria producing it as part of digestion. That's why I'm guessing infection as a cause if there is gas. Although is she spayed? I wouldn't expect it if she is spayed b...

Re: sounds when expressing

Definitely see the vet. Something is producing gas, and likely it is some kind of bacteria, which suggests an infection.
