Re: Jasmine
Have you looked at the links that show how to express a doggies bladder ? Expressing would help with keeping the house clean. A lot of dogs don't even leak urine if they are expressed 3-4 times a day. Do you have a vet who is willing to work with you and would help you learn to express her bladder? ...

Re: Kitten with brain injury *need advice*
Pets have amazing powers to overcome obstacles. Plus, with her being so young her synapses can compensate as well. Don't give up on her ! Make sure that you safety proof your house. Have a baby gate installed to protect her from any falls. Monitor her to make sure she is warm enough. Can she eat dry...

Re: Desperate - still struggling to express cat bladder
Amy, I wish we knew of someone near you who could work with you. You are near NYC right? I know of several rescues in that area but none of them have expressing skills. NYC is where my Kitty Caramel Apple came from. She is also paralyzed. She was attached by pit bulls. While expressing her I tried t...

Re: Sacral fracture, urinary and fecal incontinence
That is great news about Rocky. Pat yourself on the back for all your hard work with him. You have given him time to heal and it sure sounds like he is making great progress !! It sounds like you have a wonderful vet too ! I want to mention something to you. I am only mentioning this because it is s...

Re: Sacral fracture, urinary and fecal incontinence
So, the only antibiotic he is on is the metro? That is usually used for bowel problems not bladder infections? Does his urine have a strong smell although an infection doesn't always have a smell . I would take him in and have a urine analysis performed. A bladder infection can get ahead of them so ...

Re: Sacral fracture, urinary and fecal incontinence
You mentioning that he is totally voiding so he doesn't need to be expressed. So, is he leaking all the time ? If he is retaining any urine I would still express him to cut down on the mess. I give all the previously mentioned drugs to my cat. Without bethanechol she gets continual infections. Wheth...

Re: Hepatitis in a paralyzed cat from drug toxicity
I know Buddy had surgery because he was very difficult to express. I just couldn't remember what it was called. Didn't the surgery create an artificial open where urine could be collected?
I know it has been a while since you lost Buddy. I hope me mentioning it doesn't cause you pain.

Re: Hepatitis in a paralyzed cat from drug toxicity
Caramel has started back to eating. She ate almost 1/2 of a cup today!! She will only eat the kitten's Royal Canin baby kitten food but anything is better than nothing. I will just need to adjust her meds according to the tightness of her bladder spincter. Now, I'm scared to give anyone bladder meds...

Hepatitis in a paralyzed cat from drug toxicity
My four year old paralyzed cat Caramel Apple didn't eat like normal for several days. She would only eat a few bites with continual prompting. I took her to the vet and we did blood work. Her liver values were over 300 and normal is around 100. I have been force feeding her for almost 3 weeks now an...

Re: Two paralyzed 8 wk females near San Antonio, TX need hom
So glad that you had Honey and Sugar evaluated by your Vet. She sounds like she is very willing to help them and to work with you. Don't hesitate to go back for more bladder lessons. Having your husband trained will make their care even more manageable. I emailed several rescue contacts in Houston. ...

Re: Two paralyzed 8 wk females near San Antonio, TX need hom
I know you are likely feeling overwhelmed but you are asking questions and trying to do the best by them. Don't give up on them. It may take a little time but you will find them a home. There are homes out there that care for pets with special needs where they are greatly cherished. I myself have a ...

Re: Two paralyzed 8 wk females near San Antonio, TX need hom
They are very, very cute ! I'm sure it will be difficult to let them go but with your work situation it is understandable. I want to go back to what I wrote to you in my earlier post. When you see kittens with hind limb problems you automatically should think bowel and bladder problems. Some of thes...
