Re: wanted: small handicapped pet bird

Hi! I have a little finch that is unable to perch, but he is not people friendly and probably too small to put in with your lovely cockatiel. Do you have any pics of your cockatiel? I'd love to see them! There's a special place in my heart for disabled birds!

Re: Discrimination against an amputee - Question

Hi! I really commend you for caring for your dog with such love. Some people just don't accept handicapped animals (or people!) no matter how much you try to please them. I have a medium-sized dog who has been trained to use the disposable dog pads to go potty on when he's in the house. Considering ...

Re: Plucky duck survives another brush with death

What a brave little duck! I'd like to take the hunter's gun and shoot him in the leg and arm, stick him in a refrigerator for two days without food and water, and see how he fares...

Animal Planet's E-Vet Intern Episode

Hi everyone! This week Animal Planet aired an episode of E-Vet Intern that featured a doxie named "Eli" who had a ruptured disk mid-back due to an accident. Eli had completely lost the use of his rear legs. The vet who examined Eli was a neurology specialist. He made the statement that the...

Re: Baby lovebirds

Your little birds sound wonderful, and so glad to hear that they're learning to move around on their own. It may always be a mystery why all five developed without normal legs and feet, but sounds like you certainly took excellent care of them! The links listed above have great ideas for creating a ...

Re: Baby lovebirds

Hi! I've checked with people more expert in lovebirds than I, and they've said that the reasons why your lovebirds have developed without normal legs or feet can be varied. Sometimes it's a congenital birth defect, or may be due to improper nesting materials that become wrapped around the feet and l...

Re: Baby lovebirds

Hi! How are the birds moving around, on their stumps? I know people who are familiar with lovebirds; I'll ask them and get back to this board.

Re: Prejudice against handicapped pets?

Hi everyone! Well, I'm a registered nurse who has cared for handicapped people for 20 years. Many uninformed people make comments to me about my patients saying, "it would have been kinder if they had died." The idea of using euthanasia as a way to end suffering began in the animal world y...

Re: Bach Flowers

Hi! I've been trained to Level II with the Bach Flower Institute. Bach Flower Essences can be very effective in helping animals with different emotional problems, and don't have the side effects that drugs have. I use the essences with my animals routinely. The first thing to do before using flower ...

Jill, the disabled dove

I'm attaching a pic of my beloved crippled dove, Jill. She'll celebrate her second birthday in September. Although Jill can't stand, walk or perch, she still enjoys her life with her family... Jill's website is being created to help those with birds suffering with a condition called "splay leg....

Re: Leg problems in Pekin Ducklings

Hi! Please explain more about their feet not supporting their weight. What are the feet actually doing? I'm not sure what you mean by "bones seem to be flattening out". Please explain more clearly so I can help you. Thanks!
