Re: Gassy tummy makes it harder to express bladder

Dear Carol, I realized I never replied and I wanted to say thank you. We are still limping along with this issue, but OMG, I think you are right, it has probably been part of the problem all along. What a revelation! We have been through a real rough patch in the past few months and I am struggling ...

Re: Gassy tummy makes it harder to express bladder

Congratulations with Norris! I hope he regains all of his function - that would be wonderful! I have been expressing Miss Kitty's bladder for just over a year. Her tail is broken but she can walk, run, jump, and loves to play! Unfortunately she has not regained the ability to pee or poop on her own....

Re: Gassy tummy makes it harder to express bladder

Hi Buddy's mom! Hi Carol! Yea, I way turned the dose down on the Lactulose but still found a tiny dose once a day made her poo gooey after a few days. :( Most of the time it seems like we don't need it, thank goodness. Carol, I never would have thought of that, thank you! One of the flavors I feed h...

Gassy tummy makes it harder to express bladder

I'm hoping someone else may have some experience with this one. It took me so long to learn to express Miss Kitty, and I still feel I am learning. :) But most of the time I am able to keep her clean and dry, and she is generally a happy baby. In the last few months, I have realized when I have troub...

Re: Expressing a cat with a hind leg splint -- how to keep d

Thanks so much Critters and Carol! I tried the bag method last spring but maybe it will work better this time because I have gotten better at expressing her bladder. Last spring she always managed to get away from me with the wet stinky bag attached, kind of defeating the purpose! I will try the dia...

Expressing a cat with a hind leg splint -- how to keep dry?

Hi everyone, thanks for any advice about this one. Two nights ago I was expressing Miss Kitty's bladder. We had to do it in the kitchen sink instead of the bathroom sink, and for whatever reason, she *hates* the kitchen sink. She managed to wriggle out of my arms and landed hard on the kitchen floor...

Re: Desperate - still struggling to express cat bladder

Zula's dad! First off, remember as you are working to get the hang of things with Zula what a hero this makes you in so many women's eyes! :D Since I have been trying to learn to do this, any man who doesn't think I am a freak for trying to express the bladder of my mom's cat to keep her alive wins ...

Re: Desperate - still struggling to express cat bladder

Hi! What a coincidence, Zula was my grandmother's name! How wonderful that your son has been able to care for your Zula, which means you have an in-home teacher, at least for a little while longer! I would have loved to have had anyone there to help me in the house. Miss Kitty has not regained bladd...

Re: Desperate - still struggling to express cat bladder

Thank you all SO MUCH! I just returned from the vet where they did not charge me for bladder expression because they said her bladder was so small it was hard for them to get more out! I just want to say that EVERY SINGLE DETAIL you have shared about how it works for you has helped me so much. We ar...

Re: Desperate - still struggling to express cat bladder

Thanks so much CarolC and Jean! I am sorry I haven't posted again sooner. We are definitely making progress. CarolC, ***thank you so much*** for suggesting we try not using the Bethanecol. Jean, I think one reason my vet suggested it was for exactly the reason you mentioned with Caramel, so her blad...

Re: Desperate - still struggling to express cat bladder

Dear Critters, Thanks so much. I have referred to your much earlier post to me about how you express Buddy many times. I have tried but I am never able to keep Miss Kitty on her back. It's too bad because I thought your situation sounded so similar to ours, and I really appreciate you sharing it wit...

Re: Desperate - still struggling to express cat bladder

Hey Carol, Thank you again so much. I have not given the Bethanecol now since Thursday around noon. I haven't been able to tell a lot of difference so far -- either in how hard it is to express her or in how much she leaks between expressions, but will continue to monitor through the weekend. I gues...

Re: Desperate - still struggling to express cat bladder

Carol, bless you and thank you so much for your reply. I am just at my wit's end and your kindness means a lot to me. We have used two medicines since I have been trying to express her: diazepam and Bethanecol. We stuck with the Bethanecol and dropped the diazepam because it made her seem stoned. It...

Desperate - still struggling to express cat bladder

I'm writing in a pretty desperate state. I would welcome any suggestions. My mom's cat, Miss Kitty, was hit by a car in March. She had a broken leg and her tail remains completely limp. She came to live with me because my mom is disabled and could not care for her. Her leg has healed completely and ...
