Maybe try a different brand and style?
Kid John even made one at home. Peeing on it certainly isn't conducive to healthy skin.

Another tripod!! I agree it sounds like a fanbelt injury.
Truly amazing blood loss and/or infection didn't do her in VERY quickly. Does she have good mobility with the healed fracture? Guess you don't really know yet, huh?
