Re: Help Needed: Finding a Home for Foster

I would suggest trying the rescues again, but offering to keep Eddie until they can find an adopter- basically all you are asking is that they will post him on their website and refer potential adopters to you. Most rescues are full to the brim with actually housing animals, but would be willing to ...

Re: Dogs: Getting dog to use new cart?

I took Wesley to Petco to "practice." He was motivated when he saw other dogs, and the floor was smooth so easy for him to pull the cart. He really took off when he got to the beach on our vacation, though, so I usually advocate going somewhere where the dog forgets the cart and wants to r...

Re: Fee reductions for service dogs

Just an aside: I clicked on that link for fee reductions and it was an article by my good friend and neighbor! Ed, by the way, had a guide dog whose leg was amputated for cancer and who was then rehabbed and worked as a guide for another year.

Re: Help Needed: My paralized dog bites her own hind legs

Some dogs, such as Dachshunds, can lie down in carts. I know of at least one person who keeps a Dachsie in a cart most of the time to prevent him from chewing off his feet.

But while the dog is healing that isn't a good idea. How about an Elizabethan collar? Also sedatives might help.

Dogs: GSD cart available

Someone on Corgi-L has a GSD sized cart available. Email me and I'll pass it on if you are interested.

Re: Dogs: Corgi owners *LINK*

Sorry, I was out of town for the weekend. Abledogs is another good resource for care of disabled dogs (not just corgis.) Some info isn't very helpful- like bandaging feet to prevent sores, as we all know corgis won't leave bandages on their feet (I've never made it out the door of the vet's office w...

Re: Cats: handicapped cat needs litter box help

Stacee, I'd be interested in hearing more about your corgi pup. What caused his paralysis and how is he doing?

Re: Dogs: So many carts to choose from-what would you recomm

All the carts work. There are pluses and minuses to them, but the biggest, imho, is that if you live close enough to a cart maker to go get personally fitted, that can be a swing vote for that kind of cart. Getting the adjustments right is tricky, even getting the measurements right can be tricky, a...

Re: Dogs: Any encouragement welcome

I would get an opinion on the Xrays or more xrays from specialist (neurology or orthopedics.) You miss the small window for surgery if you wait too long.

Re: Dogs: Any encouragement welcome

Has he had Xrays? If it is a disk injury he needs immediate treatment. Surgery may be indicated; not everyone can afford it, and the other way to treat is to use steroids and complete rest. But you have to have an Xray or other means of determining the cause of the paralysis (sounds like a disk or o...

You don't say what size dog but there is this:
http://www.k9carts.com/protect-a-pet.htm

It is a sack that fits over them so they don't rub as they drag themselves around.

Re: Great Pet Inventions!

Great inventions! My deaf Labrador learned to come to the light flashing when it was time to eat, so that is a great invention! And I can think of a few dogs who would like a motorized wheelchair. How about someone coming up with an idea that would help keep my neighbor's blind corgi Skyler from fal...
