Nutrition Forum?

One thing that is often overlooked is nutrition for our pets. While Sasha was progressively getting worse the last couple of months, I spent a great deal of time searching online for alternatives to the copy & paste advice I was getting concerning renal failure and associated maladies. Because S...

Re: New discovery

My vet recommended canned pumpkin to help with softening the stools. I use it for Mollie for when she looks like she's starting to build up. A little bit goes a long way for us! I maybe use half a can a day during that time and stop after she goes back to softer stools. Hi, I noticed in a previous ...

Re: Can cats be born with urinary retention problems?

Hi Critters, Just received an email from the vet and she said the foster home where Red spends weekends has decided to permanently adopt him. Would have been nice if she had mentioned their interest earlier as I was all ready to adopt - little problems and all. Two heartbreaks in one month. Perhaps ...

Can cats be born with urinary retention problems?

Someone learned of Sasha online and directed me to a 1 y/o male Persian that was born with urinary retention. He is has CH (cerebellar hypoplasia), but an extremely mild case (waddles a little like a duck, but nothing remarkably out of the ordinary). He jumps well, eats normally, plays normally and ...

Re: Sasha of Vinitsa - Warrior King

Oh Carol, Thank you so much for the link. I wanted to add some of my posts from here to Sasha's website to keep his history all in one place and your link helps sort the dates. Thank you all for your kind words. Sasha meant the world to me, as this little group knows. There's a big empty space in my...

Sasha of Vinitsa - Warrior King

My dearest friends, Sasha released his warrior king spirit into Nature's loving arms, resting on my bosom, as we sat in the high noon sun, near Sasha's favorite tree that overhangs our deck, where sparrows were singing and a white butterfly passed by. Warrior King, Sasha of Vinitsa, sweet angel of m...

Sasha and the Lazarus Effect...

Thank you, Christine. You know his whole little story and it always feels like home here. We did manage to start sub-Qs again, but there were so many mix-ups with what to give when and what to treat first, and the vets giving standard copy and paste responses, it really has been a roller-coaster of ...

Sasha and the Lazarus Effect...

Good grief, my dear friends! What a harrowing week we had. I want the good old days back, when my biggest concern was curing Sasha's stud tail... I am so completely burnt out, but thank God, Sasha is hanging in there. Please see his little website for the horrifying scare we had this past Saturday: ...

July 15, 2012 Update

Today is moving day, but wanted to give a quick update on Sasha. We scratched everything at Animal Medical Center in Manhattan, when, in an in-depth telephone pre-consultation (is there such a thing?!) with the head of the project, I learned Sasha would NOT have been accepted into the Stem Cell Ther...

Re: Cat with fractured sacrum, no bowel or bladder control

Dear Molly's Mom, These videos saved me when I was at my wits end with my kitty when he was incontinent a few years back: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnVCtifcAnc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdASzyBHWvQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmfeZmrOzik If you like, read all about Alera. Re: New discovery

Hi Carol, Taking a moment's reprieve and getting ready for Sasha's next session, but your discovery is exactly what I've said before when I saw videos of excessively squeezing a pet's bowels. I can't emphasize enough how much easier it is to gently massage the bowels in and UP and DOWN motion, which...

Re: Miracle in the making!

Thank you, Christine. I'm getting a good deal of info at Tanya's CRF forum and they are not letting us give up. I have been going back and forth with emails from a vet at The Animal Medical Center in Manhattan for this clinical trial http://www.amcny.org/sites/default/files/clinical%20trial%20web%20...

Sub-Qs

Hi Carol, Yes, thank heavens. I think I caught him off guard, changed the place I used to give sub-Q's and not pushing the needle in all the way, all contributed to the success. Just keep your fingers crossed it goes as well tomorrow. He absorbed the bump in about 30 minutes and urine output did not...

Sub-Q minor miracle.

Hello everyone and Happy 4th of July to all. Quick update on Sasha: Still doing assisted feeding 3x a day, with the assorted necessities of aluminum hydroxide, B12 and for the moment, amoxycilin. Poor boy continues to lose weight and is lethargic because I can not feed him enough calorie-wise. Seein...
