Re: Upcoming amputation, I have questions
sleep well, amy and tyler. fyi...xena didn't poo for several days post-op. she did, however, pee. and she did sit up the first day, but she is younger than tyler, i think, and she is totally people-oriented and the vet's was full of people. she'll do practically *anything* for people-approval. the w...

Re: Upcoming amputation, I have questions
good to know you've got hime home, amy. it will be tough at first. i always knew, in the back of my mind, that xena could get sick at any time, that she would probably die before me, that i would be faced, eventually, with that kind of grief...so i was prepared for all of that. the thing i wasn't pr...

Re: Upcoming amputation, I have questions
excellent news amy!
yay!
you'll both be bounding through this, it seems. i can't wait til you have him home too.
sleep well tonight...because i imagine you'll be up in the night a fair bit over the next week...if only to watch him breathe.
good luck, and let us know how it's going.

Re: Upcoming amputation, I have questions
karla...what a great blog milo has! thanks for sharing that. xena had her amputation just a few days before milo had his. i wonder how hard it is for boy dogs vs. girl dogs in the bodily funtions department. because xena has never lifted her leg...she has also never fallen over doing her business. i...

Re: Upcoming amputation, I have questions
great news, amy! i'm so glad he's okay. the mending can start now. be prepared for his grief...but if he was in a lot of pain, he may experience relief instead of grief. xena was not in any pain before her leg snapped and so she had no experience walking only on three legs until she had only three l...

Re: Upcoming amputation, I have questions
amy...xena was under anesthetic three times in three days. she did okay...hopefully tyler will too. if you see him today...it will be a bit of a shock. not because of the incision...but because of the after-effects of the sedation. don't let it get to you. it will pass. it's late here...and i'm off ...

Re: Upcoming amputation, I have questions
wow...so it is happening right now. i know how nerve wracking this is. it's a helpless situation...but you will both pull through it. know that there is light at the end of the tunnel.
i am sitting with you here.

Re: Upcoming amputation, I have questions
hazel...if the lump has been growing there for two years...then it must be a slow growing variety, yes? that should bode well for tornado's prognosis. i certainly hope so. an amputation is difficult for everyone but we all adjust. xena is adjusting. we are adjusting. the hardest part was that it was...

Re: Upcoming amputation, I have questions
amy...how are you doing? what's happening? is tyler getting in early? has it already happened? i'm sure you're very busy and distraught right now and my heart goes out to you both. i know this pain. xena had a bad day the day before yesterday. not sure why. she refused to eat and i had to check her ...

Re: Upcoming amputation, I have questions
hi amy. i'm sure you're doing the right thing by tyler and soon enough you will see him bounding around as though nothing has happened. you'll have to give him a few weeks to recover and build up his strength. i'd definitely go low-key until the stitches are out. xena is not feeling well this mornin...

Re: Upcoming amputation, I have questions
thanks for that info, carol. the link was great and i'm happy to see that product 'show foot' for anti-skidding. xena has slipped a few times, nothing serious, but a torn muscle or ligament right now would be disasterous. good to know that amy has time to make her decision and that tyler will not ha...

so sad
my heart is broken for you. what a lovely tribute. i'm sitting here with tears in my eyes. love is so hard sometimes, hey? it looks like your pup packed a lot into his time, had friends and family, love and affection, and some good memories for you all. what more can any of us expect from this life?...

Re: Upcoming amputation, I have questions
amy...please ask your vet about the potential for a pathological break. xena did not let us know AT ALL that there was anything wrong with her leg. then she was running and it simply broke in half. i want you and tyler to avoid this kind of experience because it was the most traumatic experience of ...

Re: Upcoming amputation, I have questions
amy... xena, my beautiful nine year old sheppard cross, had her front left leg amputated two weeks ago. just a day before that she was a happy, healthy dog with no indication that she had bone cancer. while out on a walk, her leg simply broke in half at the site of the cancer. it was disasterous. we...
