Re: Update on Spice, paralysed cat in Ireland

Hi Cathy, I am so happy that Spice is doing so well! Expression is really just a matter of practice. Soon you will be an expert at it and will be helping others who are just beginning. With my dog Waffles I find that expressing then waiting for 15 or so minutes and expressing again is the best way t...

Re: herniated disk please I need advice!

Dear Daisy's Mom, You are not alone, many of us here have paralyzed pets. Like Dianne said you need to keep your dog very still after this surgery for 6 to 8 weeks. Don't let her walk or drag herself around. Does Daisy have bladder control? Can she go on her own or do you need to express her bladder...

Re: Problem w/icons??

Yes critters, my "already read icon frequently is not correct. Almost always after I post (like now) I'll go back to the main forum to continue reading posts and they all have been marked "read" even though I have not read them. Sometimes I just notice recent times and dates on forums...

Re: Frosty - Update and questions

Karen, I am not a vet but if you google the normal temp of a dog you will see that high normal is considered 102.5. So I don't see where 103 is such a high temp. I have a dog named Waffles and he ruptured a disk, had the surgery and never regained the ablitiy to walk or use his bladder. Carol mentio...

Re: Bully's Home ---- Again!

Karen,

I am so glad that Bully is home and showing signs of improvement! That is so great. Waffles still wakes up in the middle of the night and barks. I have to get on the floor and pet him to clam him down. It can be exhausting but he is worth it. Hang in there. Beth

Re: Boxer - Diagnosed with DM

I really like Eddie's carts. My dog Waffles has rear leg paralysis and has been using an Eddies cart for 2 years. He is a doberman/pitbull and is really ruff on the cart but it has really held up. I got a reinforced cart. Waffles was 55 pounds when I first started using the cart (he averages around ...

Re: Bully - Day Two

Karen, I cathetered Waffles for a year without an infection. Now he was on a preventative antibiotic the whole time. As long as Bully is on an antibiotic I think you will be OK. I know some drugs are better for urinary tract infections so even if Bully ends up with an infection they would just chang...

Dear Connie,

I am so, so sorry about your sister. I am very close to my sister and can't even imagine what you are going through. What a wonderful gift she gave to others in need. Again I am so sorry for your loss. You will be in my prayers. Take care. Beth

Re: Success cath'ing Bully

Hi Karen, I am so glad you were able to catheter Bully! One suggestion I have (and you maybe doing this already) is measure and write down the amount of urine that you take out of bully everytime. I would collect the urine in a measuring cup so that I always knew how many ounces of urine I got out. ...

Re: Can't find her bladder!

Cathy, It took me 4 months to really start to get the hang of expressing Waffles bladder. Please don't get depressed, you will figure it out! My vet taught me how to catheter my male dog Waffles and I think I actually used that as a crutch because I did not go to totally expressing Waffles until a y...

Re: Advice re recently paralysed cat

Cathy, One of my vets did tell me to be careful if Waffles bladder was every really full because it is possible to rupture the bladder but I don't think that it is something that happens very often especially if you are expressing the bladder multiple times a day. Once in a while when Waffles has be...

Re: Advice re recently paralysed cat

Dear Cathy, I am so sorry that your cat was shot and is paralyzed now. I have a dog named Waffles who has had rear leg paralysis for 2 years due to a ruptured disk. He uses a cart and is a very happy dog. The first thing that I want to say to you is that you know better then anybody what her quality...

Re: The Latest on Bully

You can buy the catheters from your vet. THEY need to tell you what you need. When I got Waffles out of the hospital I took him to my regular vet. She had the vet techs down on the floor with me and step by step taught me how to put the catheter in, get the urine out with a syringe, remove the cathe...

Re: New to Website .... my poodle had spinal surgery 3 weeks

You could be right. It was just the first thing I thought of when I read your post but then I have a dog who's bladder does not work so that is where my head went. I'm sure you will get some other opinions but it certainly never hurts to make the call to your vet to get her opinion. Gotta go - need ...

kim,

Make sure you check out the incontinence and kidney problems forum. The first post has links with instructions on expressing the bladder and bowels.
