Re: New to Website .... my poodle had spinal surgery 3 weeks
Kim, I just kept Waffles gated in a small space for those 6 weeks on an orthopedic bed. I slept with him every night for those 6 weeks and hardly left his side so he really didn't have any reason to want to move around. Of course you have to move them to go to the bathroom and eat but that is about ...

Re: New to Website .... my poodle had spinal surgery 3 weeks
I am so glad that you found this website too. I have a dog named Waffles who ruptured a disk two years ago had emergency surgery but still can not use his back legs. This group saved my life. Waffles uses a cart from Eddies Wheels. He gets along great in it. I have no other experience with other car...

Re: The Latest on Bully
My dog Waffles' back legs have been paralyzed for the last 2 years. He gets around in a cart and is an extremely happy dog. Just wanted to let you know that cathetering a male dog is pretty easy once you get over the fear factor. I had to catheter Waffles for the first year of his paralysis. He was ...

Re: advice please!!
The one thing that I know from this board is that you need to crate rest your dog immediately. You did not mention if your vet recommended that to you. It is very important that your dog move as little as possible. Only take your dog out to go to the bathroom. Does your dog have any bladder control?...

Re: Hydrotherapy?
Hi Shani,
I live in South Jersey and I have been taking my paralyzed dog Waffles to hydrotherapy at a place called PetPT (www.petpt.com) in Cherry Hill, NJ. They have a pool and an underwater treadmill. If it is close enough for you check it out.

Re: Dogs: Dog Paralysis- bladder expression
Dear Kristy, It feels overwhelming right now but this bladder thing is something that you will soon learn to manage. When my dog Waffles became paralyzed 2 years ago my vet taught me how to catheterize him. He was very weak and sick when I first got him home (long story) so catheterizing was much le...

Other: Vanessa's Dogs - Photo *PIC*
Hi Everyone, Vanessa is having some tech difficulties posting a photo so she asked me to post a photo of her dogs Romeo and Mabelline from my computer. Mabelline is the smaller of the two. She is the dog that has hemivertebrae and is doing quite well now (after first vet said to put her down!). Plea...

Re: Other: Speck did not make it
Hi Barbara! It is so nice to see your name again. Thank you so much for the lovely words. And yes, I was crying when I read those lines of the poem. Oh it is so hard. Don't say that you don't have anything to contribute to this board. Because you just did. You touched someone who just lost a beloved...

Re: Dogs: Does this ever get any easier?
Dear Carolyn, I am so sorry to read about your dear Willow. I read your first post and was hoping that you would be back to update us. I just lost a beloved cat on Saturday so I am very aware of the pain that you are feeling right now. Like so many people have been telling me know that you did every...

Re: thank you Dianne
Jean, Thanks for your kind words. Please do not feel badly about sharing your opinion about amputating Speck's leg. I have been here for 2 years and have read so many happy stories about 3 legged pets. After doing lots of research about fibrosarcoma I knew that it was really the only hope of extendi...

Re: Other: To all those Who Post! update on Miss Mabellline
Hi Vanessa, I'm so glad you posted an update. This can be so inspirational to so many people who are told by their vets to put their beloved pet down. I just want to point out that you are now the resident expert on hemivertebrae. I have only seen a couple of people post about it and I always call A...

I am so so sorry
Dear Linda, I am so so sorry about the passing of your dear Sydney. We all know the pain that you are going through. I myself lost my beloved cat Speck just 3 days ago. So I am grieving with you tonight. You did everything you could for Sydney and I am sure she knew how much she was loved. I remembe...
