Re: New to this...
Welcome Kristen and Allie, so good to have you here. Carol has given you such good info, that I dont have much to add. I will re-assure you however, that the neurologists are not always correct about the deep pain sensation, and dont fret too much about that....it is early yet. On the bladder expres...

Re: How do deal with people
Every single person in this thread has made some very good, valuable points. I have never had the experience of having a valued pet, and then have them become handicapped, through some misfortune. I can however empathize with all these viewpoints, as I resuce the handicapped pets after those "l...

Re: New!
Welcome to the site Laura. I hope your little guy is doing well and you find the info you need on this site. Just a suggestion, why dont you start a new thread, and introduce yourself and Wilson, and tell us more about him. On the pics, if you have photobucket or shutterfly etc. just copy the URL ad...

Re: newfoundland paralyzed after mri
I am at a loss here, did your vet, or who did the MRI have an explanation for the change in your newfies mobility? do you have him on any anti-inflammatories, such as metacam? I certainly would not give up hope since he seems to be improving already, with movement in the back legs. what did the MRI ...

Re: My dog just became a paraplegic and I need advice
Welcome to the site! You will find a lot of useful advice and videos here for expressing the bladder and bowel. One of my pugs that I rescued was hit by a car also, and she has a severed spinal cord. With her they put her in a body cast, and did not recommend surgery. I am also wondering what surger...

Re: New here - help needed
I am no expert to predict whether your little one will recover partially, fully or at all. But I can tell you that even if she doesn't recover the feeling and movement in her back legs, she can certainly live a long and healthy and very happy life. I have 5 handicaped pugs, 3 of which have not recov...

Re: Carl Update :-( Any spinal walkers out there??
I am so impressed by all that Carol did to help her dog regain the walking ability. I have 2 that are spinal walking, one attempts the run, and though a bit awkward, he stays up and he can outrun me. With both of our dogs that have rehabbed, I did it quite differently, but it worked!! I put them in ...

here is a link to a new treatment being advertised for disc problems. It is not invasive, and I have heard good reports about it.

Re: Wheelchairs for pugs?
One thing i forgot to mention, yes the pugs can lay down in their carts. However, it looks uncomfortable, and I usually take them out when the are laying down, and after they have a nap, they go back in. Keep in mind all my handicaps save one, are seniors..........and pugs like to rest anyway.

Re: Wheelchairs for pugs?
Here is a link for a free DNA test for Degenerative Myelopathy. If your pug has been diagnosed by your vet with DM, you can send a sample in for a free DNA test to confirm. this. It is also a great help to them to get these tests from the different breeds that are not usually diagnosed with DM. You ...

Re: Wheelchairs for pugs?
I have been around pugs for a very long time, and never heard of spinal degeneration. Is that what your neurologist diagnosed? Could you get a scientific name for it, I would like to do some research. 3 of my 5 handicaps were accidents, and 2 FCE. I am in B.C. where in Canada are you? Maybe i can fi...

Re: New!
When you get to nine, you have officially been puggered!
Never thought I would have this many, but once we retired, it just kind of snowballed. We only rescue those with no more options left, so many of them now!!
Looking forward to more pics of igor!! Hugs Joan

Re: Wheelchairs for pugs?
Carol I think we stop at 9 pugs, because once you get to double digits, it may never stop. Welcome pugwinkle. what kind of spinal degeneration are you dealing with? Are you talking about IVDD, or ? I have 5 handicapped pugs, 5 were in carts, but 2 have recovered to the point they no longer need the ...
