Re: Really need help with a dog who suffered a stroke
Hi Jon, When my old dog had vestibular & most of the older dogs that presented with vestibular symptoms at vet clinics I have worked at over the years, had whisle clean ears & no outward signs of inflammation. The dog's ear canal has a bend unlike our's & the ear drum & middle ear ar...

Re: Really need help with a dog who suffered a stroke
Hi Jon, Did your vet consider 'vestibular syndrome' vs 'stroke' ??? They both present similar. Vestibular syndrome is also coined as 'old dog disease' it causes head tilt, nystagmas, nausea & makes them so 'dizzy' balance is not possible if it is severe onset / case. It is thought to be an infla...

Re: Blind and Toothless Cat
Hi, Do you have the room to put & secure a medium / large pet carrier in your back seat? If you could then you could put Murphy in the carrier when you stop to eat or use the restroom, so you would not have to worry about a mishap with him getting tangled in his leash while you do your buisness....

Re: blood in urine/not eating
Karen, In your orginal post for Pam, there was no mention of financial problems, it sounded more like she did not want him unhappy or stressed if he was going to die anyway or need transfusions & lots of invasive care with little hope of recovery. I answered with that in mind & still think i...

Re: blood in urine/not eating
I second Carol, left over antibiotics may not address his problem. He needs a vet visit & possible culture of his urine to see what antibiotic to use for what possible bacteria may be causing the urinary trouble (random antibiotics can 'mess up' the culture). If it is crystal formation irritatin...

Re: Mobility and Mental Issues - the End?
I am so sorry Samba has reached a point where love & money can not buy her more quality time. You have done much more than almost anyone can or WILL do. I can not think of anything more than you have done. Even if you can find a doggie dementia drug it will not solve her mobility issues. In my m...

Re: New and need some advice on walking aids
Hooray for Abby! she sounds like a trooper. I think she will amaze you with her recovery. Oddly enough my Lydia also hated big black dogs. One jumped her when she was middle age & after that she was out to show them who was the QUEEN. She was good otherwise as long as the other dog was submissiv...

Re: New and need some advice on walking aids
I just use 'human' fish oil capsules. The ~ daily dose is 20mg / 1 lb, so 50lb dog would get 1000mg fish oil capsule. Two of mine just eat it like a treat, the other 2 I have to mash down their gullet or hide in a pill pocket. I also give them each a 'human' flax oil capsule daily. I have Tasanni (m...

Re: New and need some advice on walking aids
I agree, it is frightening & many owners bring their dogs in to be PTS because they believe they have had a stroke or 'heart attack' because of the sudden onset. Since it generally strikes older dogs, many owners just opt for euthanasia, because they feel it is not in the dog's best interest, gi...

Re: New and need some advice on walking aids
Hi again, Hope she is doing better! My vet uses Prednisolone with Vestibular Syndrome aka "Old dog syndrome" ( it does sometimes hit middle age animals)because it reduces inflammation & antibiotics in case the inflammation is caused by infection. It is not exactly known (as far as I un...
