Re: Help Needed: Dog with torn ACL *LINK*
It's treatable surgically; there are several options for surgery. TPLO is the most expensive and has NOT been shown to have benefits in dogs as large as Labradors over traditional, or extracapsular surgery. You can get all kinds of info about these at the Orthodogs support group on Yahoo. You can al...

Re: Dogs: Osteoarthritis in Dogs
Is this diagnosed by Xrays as arthritis, and not something else? If not, that would be the first thing to do. There are prescription drugs such as Rimadyl and Deramaxx that can help, especially to get initial swelling down. See your vet. Glucosamine in various forms can be helpful (takes about a mon...

Re: Story: Get a safety harness for your pet NOW!
Actually they are all very well-behaved and we travel several times a year. But I will think about figuring out a safer way to have them in the car. Don't you think a seat-belt type restraint could be attached in the back of the wagon? There are metal O-rings on the floor and also the metal grill do...

Re: Story: Get a safety harness for your pet NOW!
I have four dogs. I always thought of the "wayback" cargo area as as safe as a crate, but your experience showed otherwise. It probably makes more sense to restrain the Lab and one dog in the middle and two corgi crates in the back. Usually one corgi rides on the floor of the passenger sea...

Re: Story: Get a safety harness for your pet NOW!
I have a Subaru Forester and I usually have two dogs in the Cargo area. I don't have room for two crates there because one dog is a Lab. I wonder what kind of safety restraint would work? I would not want the two dogs to tangle with each other.

Re: Other HandicappedPets.com on TV
That's terrific, Mark! Such a good way to spread the message that pets can live with disabilities, and they did a nice job on the piece, too.

Re: I understand!!
It isn't exactly spoiled with corgis. It's that some things aren't worth the battle of the wills it takes to get them done! I realized after I'd had Luka about two years that he only does what HE wants, rarely what I tell him to, unless they are the same thing. My other two do sometimes do what I sa...

Re: Other Topic Counterbalanced cart?
Well, a major improvement if he could use one. I can't see a quad cart working, though, as I don't think he'd tolerate it. I know Eddie's makes counterbalanced carts but I'm not sure I could get him into a fixed saddle cart. (There are SOME advantages to having a dog who can't kick and wiggle too we...

Re: Other Topic Counterbalanced cart?
I should add, he walks okay, just so slow that it makes taking him for walks nearly impossible. He loves to go, and hates to turn around and go home, but it can take half an hour to go four blocks (two there, two back.) He would get out more and be able to go further if he could move faster.

Other Topic Counterbalanced cart?
I have been wondering if my very old, very slow corgi could use a cart. He is a heavy dog (not fat, just deep chest, heavy bone) and fairly short-legged, and has some weakness in his muscles (a mild shove causes him to fall down) and he scrapes the front of one front paw going up curbs. This does no...

You may want to join the orthodogs list on Yahoogroups. There are many, many discussions there about various kinds of ACL surgery and about conservative management (without surgery.)

Other Animals Poodle pup (standard) for adoption
This pup is in the east (NY/NJ) area and had one hip crushed at birth. He is about four months old now. He might be a candidate for a hip replacement, and the leg, which he does not use, has grown with him. If anyone is interested in adopting him let me know and I'll send you the contact info. His b...
