Re: Mystery paralysis
Thank you. Having dealt with cancer, and an aggressive one, you do have a bit of time as long as quality of life is there. You can take him home and love him for a bit. You do not need to PTS right away, though that is certainly an option if that is what you know is right. Again, you understand your...

Re: Mystery paralysis
I agree with Critters. I, too, have had less than ideal experiences with specialists. This past summer, for example, I had to take my Cane Corso to a private hospital because she needed an oncologist. The dog died before we even got the results, though I had asked pointedly if she even needed the te...

Re: Deaf dog lured into camel enclosure
So much wrong with this, I don't know where to start? :? Camel at a rest stop? Luring the dog into danger? As usual, it is the animals that are suffering from people's lack of judgment. I would love to think that the dog was seized and rehomed where it is being pampered and loved. Yes. That is it. I...

Re: New to this
I am so, so sorry. :candle: What a puzzling case. I wonder if their was toxicity at play? Or perhaps a brain tumour? Please take comfort in knowing that you gave this lucky boy the best life anyone could hope for. He went from semi-feral to being loved and nurtured, and even passed away in your lap,...

Re: Mystery paralysis
Hi there, First of all, I am so sorry about your dog. He is lucky to have you. I have to say, I have heard stories about Guelph similar to yours. I always expect more from teaching hospitals, but in my experience private ones can be worse when it comes to long-term care or cases that are out of the ...

Re: Manx syndrome questions
Hi there, It has been a while since I have cared for a Manx Syndrome kitten, but I certainly can advise. First of all, it does take a bit of time for the full extent of the problem to show up. That is because the kitten will grow until she is about 8 months old. In the meantime, it sounds like based...

Re: Duck needs a wheelchair
Hi there,
I am dealing with a lame duck of my own.
I am not clear though on where the break occurred in your duck. Was it the foot itself? Can she put any weight whatsoever on the foot?

Re: deer with contracted and crippled back leg
Hi there,
How did you make out with your deer? You could use some Vet Wrap (available at any livestock co-op). I would imagine amputation would not be ideal as a) it would be a field surgery, I would imagine, and b) she has heart issues. Sounds like you have a good vet.

Re: Bird legs
In chickens, when they are splayed, I have successfully used a small bandage or piece of medical tape to "tie" both legs together, leaving about an inch of space in between. You also have to make sure that they are on a surface that allows them to have good traction.

Hi Critters,
I would love to read that. I have horses and they are trusting souls.

I can add nothing to Carol's excellent post, except my encouragement. You are very loving and devoted. Please keep us posted. I have been through this with my Shih-Tzu. She went in for surgery within hours of going down and she did have DPS. She was down when she came home, but continent. It took he...
