Re: Kitten born with no tail/ unable to poop/pee on own.

HI! I have two of those. First, find a different vet, jeez that ones sounds awful. They shoudl at least be willing to look up stuff and learn to help you. I haven't used ex-lax, not sure how it is for cats. Mira lax, maybe about a quarter teaspoon for a kitten, twice daily should help a lot. There a...

Re: cat with nerve damage...

just got home and saw this. I have expressed huge bladders. Is it huge because she can't pee at all on her own, or is it huge because something is in the way? When my girl Cherry has hard stool, it makes it impossilbe for her to pee, and I have to get some stool out first. keep in mind a huge bladde...

Re: Help!! Ava cant use front or back legs

i knew a neuropsychologist who rehabilitated children with neurological problems. He told me that physical therapy was an absolute key in helping the brain rewire around the part that wasn't working. He said the younger the child the better the outcome. I would spend time several times a day with yo...

Re: Cat Facial Paralysis

Before worrying about introducing the cats I would be worried about her attitude. She should not rapidly lose muscle mass from inactivity. Has she improved since she has been back with you? How long has it been? Anesthesia can stress the kidneys, and kidney problems will lead to decreased appetite, ...

Re: Sad sad horrible news :(

thank you, Carol. for a week after surgery he felt great, better than he had in years and I spent all my time with him. He wasn't allowed to zoom because he was healing but he got to eat whatever he wanted, instead of laxative soup and he was just so happy. At least he left me after having that week...

Sad sad horrible news :(

Some of you may remember, six and a half years ago little orange spina bifida boy was posted in teh emergency rescue section. I adopted him and named him Butterbean. Over the years he had a good life but developed megacolon that finally required surgery, his gut hurt him all the time and he needed d...

Re: Incontinence and Spinal Injury Experience with Cali Catr

that is a fantastic guide to caring for an incontinent cat, and your love for her is evident in every word. I can assure you it will help many people with their incontinent cats. Thank you for sharing. For me the best way that I honor my passed special needs kitties is sharing what I have learned fr...

Re: Megacolon/Blood in urine/multiple issues!

Hello that is a fairly familiar constellation of problems to problems to me. firstly with the FIV, te only proven therapy for it is Tcyte, which has mixed results and is obscenely expensive. good nutrition, longer courses of antibiotics, staying on top of everything is how I deal with FIV cats (I ha...

Re: Starting to get diaper rash/sores

I've been wrapped up in a bunch of stuff here for the past few days. I use the dollar general diapers and they seem to hold quite a bit of pee. It's my understanding that what kills most incontinent pets is urinary tract infections and kidney failure, which is why it's critical to keep a weather eye...

Sometimes we have to go into super-mom mode. I'm glad you managed to express her, I've had to do similar things with my girl Black Cherry a couple times. ugh. I've had spay incisions that were glued get infected, it's just on my list of "crap that can go wrong" and now whenever I get a spa...

Re: Sucky's neurological damage

I love hand nursers! I had wondered about his name. Hopefully he'll get that habit back. It really is endearing. Mimosa regained some sight and a little hearing. While she was blind and deaf I communicated with her through vibrations. At night she stayed in a large cage and I would tap the door thre...

a story not many people know. How I got The Bendy Clan

Six Toes is the end of an era. Losing her closes a long chapter in my life. Everyone associated with me knew Bendy and heard about his sibs, but I rarely talked about how I actually got them. Thsi page was written over 16 years ago, I don't think the kittens were a year old yet when i wrote it. this...

Re: Sucky's neurological damage

ivermectin is neurotoxic and the safety window is very narrow for cats. I'm very sorry your cat has had toxicity from it. I see CarolC (the link lady) posted a link to my girl Mimosa's page. She was the most severely brain damaged cat I had and at first coudl not stand, see or hear (hers was an anes...
