Re: Pip diagnosis - Central cord syndrome

He's been doing pretty well, other than being bored. Monday and today he was kicking at the back of his neck again. I gave him gabapentin both times. I don't know if he did something to it while springing against the side of the playpen to get into his preferred position. I'd guess that's what it is...

Re: Keeping bed dry

Oh, I see. That's kind of interesting. I can't remember a vet telling a caregiver not to use diapers (belly bands) before. Maybe she wanted to be sure you got in the habit of always expressing and did not simply rely on a diaper? :? Really don't know what the thinking was. Many dogs (it sounds like ...

Re: Keeping bed dry

Have you tried a male doggy diaper, also called a belly band or male wrap? It's a wide band that fastens around the waist with velcro. Inside you put an absorbent pad, such as Poise (cut to size, your dog is small). They also make disposable male wraps but in my limited experience, the ones I tried ...

Re: Stirrup Help

He tries to eat his feet so we keep boots on him almost 24/7. <snip> It also doesn't help that he has to wear a cone at night because he tries to get his boots off and night and has been successful several time. We just got that injury where he lost a nail healed. Hi hbartek, :gang: Hopefully someo...

Re: Newbie! Needing advice re knuckling and stiff feet

Replies in blue... An update to my last post.. I visited the orthopaedic vet last Friday and he wasn't much help at all. :( He basically said he couldn't and wouldn't operate as he would be worried about the foot becoming floppy and useless, he also didn't think fusing would be a good idea either. ...

Re: Old-fashioned clothesline

How long has it lasted? With the weird weather we're having, 105 degree days have become common and I'm picturing the wire heating up inside the plastic sleeve, making it dry and crack. Right now I have PVC clothesline with fiber core because that's what I had in the garage, but I'd like something s...

Re: Using a dog coat as a slider for paraplegic cat

It works. That's so cool! The coat is goretex or something smooth like that on the outside and flannel on the inside. I bet it slides really well over almost any surface. It would probably work for a dog, too... :D

Re: Newbie! Needing advice re knuckling and stiff feet

Oh, I totally agree. I have always thought how much easier it must be for a short dog like a dachshund to learn to walk again. With tall dogs, the center of gravity is so far up off the ground, it's easier to keel over, and the wheel base is shorter. Greyhounds are a good example, some boxers are an...

Replies in blue... Awww thanks Carol, he's getting on really well now with the walking, my only problem is getting him to stay outside long enough as he's so lazy :) He totters round a bit then runs back to the house to his bed.. yes runs now!! :o I think he's knuckling on both feet as it's easier ...

Re: Pip diagnosis - Central cord syndrome

He's been doing pretty well, but then tonight he urped and choked a little. I hope he didn't inhale. He had his Knox blocks an hour earlier and was lying curled up on his left side. He can curl up that way, but he cannot eat that way (swallowing problem) and apparently can't belch that way either. I...

Re: Paralyzed dog with knee problems...

Replies in blue... Thank you for your reply Carol! It really helped me. The thing with his leg is that it's always been kinda bad since the surgery. It was hard to move it from the beginning and the vet told us that he probably couldn't use it properly if he would walk again. So that's nothing new....
