Re: Great video!

Thanks! There are two videos on the page. On the first, Dr. James StClair is using the older style leg rings that do not have the extended clip-on straps, which require more lifting. In the second video, Christina is using the clip-on straps, which are now included with every wheelchair. The method ...

decubital ulcers in dogs

One of the problems that plague handicapped pets is decubital ulcers. These pressure sores form when a dog who has trouble getting up and down 'flops' down on a hard floor and his hip bone begins to wear through the skin that covers it. Once an open sore forms, it typically does not heal and easily ...

Re: Training wheels

The wheels are designed to spread out at a 5 degree angle - this is typically stable enough for any dog, making training wheels unnecessary. Did I understand your question correctly? Perhaps you're speaking about a front wheel cart?

Re: Walkin' Wheels for amputee ?

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. CarolC let me know that this post had inadvertently gone unanswered. We offer both the "figure 8" or "Leg Ring" harness and, sold separately, the neoprene harness. You are correct, originally the neoprene harness was included. We had a...

Re: Sheepdog with FCE

Hi, This is Mark Robinson, creator of HandicappedPets.com. Your post was brought to my attention. I'm so glad you found us. It is possible that a wheelchair can be a good solution here, although you will not be able to leave him in the chair for 8 or hours. The purpose of the wheelchair is to help t...

Re: Questions about my boxer

Hi Joe, Thanks for joining us. I've addressed each of your questions below. 1. Our boxer mix (Sonny) has lots of scrapes and cuts on the top of his feet from stumbling around all day. Will a proper fit keep his legs slightly elevated so this doesn't happen? YES. The amount of elevation depends on th...

Re: Rear Harness Improvements/Adjustments for Comfort

We are finding that the harness should be tight across the top of the wheelchair -- not loose and hanging down. In addition, males can be given a little extra room where they need it by leaving some space between the leg rings.

New Idea for Stirrups & Boots

Denali, seen here traipsing through the woods on the way for a swim, has straps attached to boots. VERY comfortable and protects his feet well. Brief video can be seen here -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-lOEoGnEl8 more to come on this trip to Squam Lake (NH) with Denali and family. StirrupBoots...

Re: Sleeping & Walkin' Wheels

Hi! I think the wheelchair is a great idea for Buddy, but it's important to realize that the purpose of the wheelchair is so that the dog can get the exercise he needs. Typically, you will put the dog in the cart, take him out for a walk, then take him out of the cart. He may be able to relax by put...

Re: Walkin' Wheels Specifics

The frame of the Walkin' Wheels with a smaller set of tires weighs about 5 pounds. Heavier wheels add a few more pounds. The weight, though, is typically not a factor because the dog, typically, does not need to lift it. The weight distribution, which can be adjusted with the Walkin' Wheels by movin...
