Re: Story: Music Therapy for Animals
I knew that I wasn't completely bonkers in my assumption of applying music therapy principles to animals. If it helps to distract from pain, makes movement easier, or adds to the enjoyment of life, why wouldn't we do it? There are too many indications that animals remember and enjoy sound. Thanks to...

Re: Four Fur Feet
Your cadence work still comes under the realm of Music Therapy. Karl Orff, the Hungarian, began with chant/cadence work and then added music to his works. And you didn't know that you were using a recognized therapeutic mode. It is really not so "far out" to use rhythm, music, or chant to ...

Story: Music Therapy for Animals
This may appear as an odd topic, but is applicable as many of us are involved in therapeutic modes (physical therapy, water therapy, etc.) to improve the health, healing, and well being of our pets. My education and training as a musician and certification as a music therapist didn't prepare me for ...

Re: Designer wraps, sew one yourself *LINK*
Carol, Thanks for the pics of the male wraps. With your help, I was able to find a pic and sew a free wrap that works! The prices of the designer wraps were a bit expensive, so with leftover velcro and polartec, I was able to make a wrap that does the job! Yeah!!! I cut a diaper in half so that I ha...

Urinary: Newly Paralyzed Doxie Urinary leakage
Schnitzel was paralyzed about 4 weeks ago from a slipped disc. I was able to express urine until yesterday when he began leaking in greater amounts. It appears that he is leaking most of his urine without expression. He doesn't look ill as with a bladder infection, but it concerns me that he is now ...

Re: Dachshund Back Digest
Carol, Thank you for your helpful advice about finding a new vet, the link, and encouragement. You've been very supportive. Angeline contacted me before her move, but understandably, I have not heard from her in several days. Having recently moved 1000 miles with our pet menagerie, I understand the ...

Re: Schnitzel
Thank you so much for your encouragement. It helps to keep me thinking positive thoughts. Today as I was playing with Schnitzel's toes, he gave several strong kicks. After some toe stimulation, he responded the same with his other leg. At first I thought it was just a muscle spasm. I decided to clip...

Re: Story: Dianne with paralyzed doxie
Thanks for your continued support and advice re: PVC versus steel or even aluminum wheelchairs. We're planning ahead for the eventuality that he won't walk, but still hoping that he might regain some sensation and ambulation. All of our 5 pets were abandoned in parks, or surrendered to animal shelte...

Story: Dianne with paralyzed doxie
Thank you for your many helpful responses directing me to links with paralyzed doxie information. Schnitzel, our 6 year old doxie, became paralyzed Sunday, 3 weeks ago. The paralysis below his waist was severe with incontinence, and lack of any pain sensation. We had just moved our 5 pets 1,000 mile...

Re: Urinary incontinence in newly paralyzed Doxie
Help, My doxie suffered a traumatic back injury two weeks ago, Class V slipped disc, and is now completely paralyzed from the waist down. I have attempted to maintain some good home nursing care despite my vet's recommendation that I put him down. We suffered through steroid treatment to no avail. W...
