Do you have a basking lamp above their basking area? They should be attracted to a heat source. A simple clamp-on shop lamp from Home Depot ($10-$12) with a 75W-100W bulb in it will do the trick. Distance the lamp away from the basking area so it's in the high 80's to low 90's degrees F at the baski...

I don't think our beloved animals are scared of dying. They are OK with it.
They probably know their journey doesn't end and they are going to a good place?
