Re: Using UTI at home test for dogs

Were they doing a full UA on your dog or just a test strip? The chem strips we use to test for dogs and cats test white blood cells, glucose, bilirubin, ketone (acetoacetic acid), specific gravity, blood, pH, protein, urobilinogen, and nitrite in urine. It looks like the AZO strips only test for whi...

Re: German Shepherd in Kearney, NE area RESCUED!!!

I'm doing well, thanks. I'm glad I've been able to get some updates on him, too! It's nice to know he's with a great family. As to video, all the video I have is a couple of them on the You Tube page for the Healing Heart Sanctuary ( http://www.youtube.com/user/HealingHeartAnimals ). I do have a pic...

Re: German Shepherd in Kearney, NE area RESCUED!!!

Hi All, At long last, I have heard back on Ed's new name! Per Laura, his new mom was watching him play and jump around one day and with his floating graceful motion (now that's he's sound :)) and long sweeping tail, it brought to mind for her the motion of a flying kite. And that's what she named hi...

Re: Still incontinent after laminectomy cat.. advice

Hi there, thought I'd pipe in concerning the traveling issue. My incontinent cat Cricket goes with me when I travel. She hates the vet's after all the treatments she's had. Plus, she's a very chill cat and does well traveling. So I feel better keeping her with me and maintaining her routine personal...

Re: Basset Hound/Spine/Disc Injury/Rear Legs NEED INFO ASAP

Hi K4Klute! Having no personal experience with carts, I'm hoping for some backup advise from the others here soon, but here's what I do know. It's a wonderful thing for a dog to make it to 14 years old! Kudos to you all, especially for doing so much for him to keep him healthy and happy through the ...

Re: bilateral hip dysplasia

Well that makes it difficult. Sorry your vet's away. :( In the time being though, I'm sure the tramadol will be fine.
Haha, of course she's chewing up the bed. A handicapped pet has to sabotage your efforts you know. :D Hang in there!

Re: Need Urgent Help on Diapers for Female Dachshund

I don't have a paralyzed dog, but I thought I would mention that I saw a product that was basically a bag with padded fabric that the back legs went in. It was to help them not get irritated as they dragged themselves around and also to keep their diapers from falling off. You can find them at http:...

Re: Cat diaper recommendations?

Hi Diana, So sorry about your cat. My kitty Cricket had similar injuries a year ago. I used Pampers Swaddlers sensitive baby diapers in size 3 for a really long time. They were the softest and most flexible I could find. I also used a pair of Joybies Piddle Pants for cats. You can find them online. ...

Re: Help identifying kitten's condition

No, I don't know what to tell you for a life expectancy... I don't remember how old Kenny was. I was in a different state and clinic at the time or I would look up the file. Maybe Bendy has a better idea here as mentioned above and maybe a veterinarian in the area has come across a case like this be...

Re: Help identifying kitten's condition

Hi Grovrat, I met a cat like this in the vet clinic a couple years ago. It was a black cat named Kenny, and we all loved to work with him (he was the sweetest thing). He had a big apple shaped head and a soft spot on his head that never closed. His eyes were funny and his brain function was limited....

Re: bilateral hip dysplasia

Tramadol is one of many medications to reduce inflammation and help with pain. To tell if it's working is a question for your vet. I would explain to your veterinarian exactly what you told me about her behavior (being comfortable in the morning and starting to limp more as the day progresses etc). ...

Re: bilateral hip dysplasia

Hi Kushnd, What medicine is your dog on that you're not sure is helping? Glucosamine is probably a good idea as a supplement. Cartilage damage is a big part of hip dysplasia, and glucosamine helps to repair cartilage. If she's not good with pills, you can talk to your vet about other options such as...

Re: Expressing my cat

Hi there, My cat Cricket has similar issues. Three times is a good guideline and suggested most often. But for my cat, a twice daily schedule has worked for her too. Her injury was last September, so we've had nearly a year of this routine. Focus on making sure your cat's bladder doesn't get too ful...

Re: plan for special needs pet if anything happens?

Joan, yeah that's where I am too. If someone else saw my list for Cricket, they would run too. It's not terribly complicated, but she has to have special food, she can hold herself closed when I'm trying to express her bladder, and she's fully mobile on all four legs so she likes to wiggle and scrat...

plan for special needs pet if anything happens?

I've been seeing several posts of owners who were admitted into a hospital, nursing home, or passed away and their pets are left without care. My husband really wouldn't be able to care for my dear Cricket if I was ever injured or worse. It's unusual around here to have a special needs cat. I can't ...
