Tami,
Would it be possible to take him to work with you? He could stay in a crate in a corner in the classroom. If the kids fell in love with him and talked him up at home, and the other teachers and administrators also fell in love with him, I could envision them doing a fundraiser for him to pay for his surgery. Schools have fundraisers all the time for their own programs. Why not one for him? Wouldn't that be wonderful??? And perhaps a generous vet would give you a better price with all the publicity it would get.
hip dysplasia: German Shepherd given 1 year to live
Re: hip dysplasia: German Shepherd given 1 year to live
We recently bought a "Canine Cooler" pet bed for our lab/newfoundland mix. Sooth soft is the name of the company, here is the link: www.chillow.com
He also is suffering from hip dysplasia and must lay down a lot. It really helps him, he has less elbow bruising now and prefers to lay on it more than any other surface. The bed is made of memory foam and you fill it with 5 1/2 gallons of water. It is about an inch thick and he can get off the bed more easily than he can off of other surfaces.
