Anybody heard of "spinal walking" phenomenon?

Post by Pavla »

Hi, my dog has had a spinal stroke and is now in a clinic for physical therapy. It show some small improvement. The dog is paralysed from the middle of her body. Now some movements of the rear legs appeared. The vets call it the "spinal walking" phenomenon. Did anybody hear anything about it? Can you recommend me some specialised links concerning this issue? Thanks Pavla

Hi Pavla

Glad to hear there is some improvement in Sara's condition!
Can't find anything on "spinal walking" but found quite a good article on spinal infarct that I think you may find interesting. It says that when there is deep pain response, recovery can start in approx. 2-3 weeks and take up to 4 months or more.
Here is the link, will let you know if I find anything else:

Fibrocartilaginous Embolization (also known as spinal infarct):

Yes, this is a common phenomenon in early recovery.

Try joining the list at abledogs.net; be warned, it's VERY active.

Hi critters,
why is the abledog discussing group organised in such a complicated uncomfortable way with all the registration and stuff like that??? Why can´t it be as simple as here? I have tried to register which may work but it does not make me feel much comfortably. Anyway thanks for the help, I will try to find there some necessary information out but this message board will stay my very favorite thanks to its being open to anybody and directly.

not a bulletin board like this. The info will come to your email box.

I used to belong, but the volume of mail got to be too much. Lots of good information, though.
