Re: Walkin' Wheels with elderly rear leg amputee Black Lab
The key to taking care of an amputee dog is to pay attention to the remaining single leg.
A three-legged dog is often functionally, not handicapped; they can run, jump, and play like other dogs. If a problem develops with the remaining single leg, though, the injury is critical.

It can help prevent the dog from getting overtired on long walks. Typically, the dog's caretaker will carry the dog wheelchair and observe closely for signs of tiredness. As soon as the dog slows down, he or she can be placed in the dog wheels for the walk home. In addition, the dog wheelchair can be used while the animal is losing weight and becoming accustomed to the amputation.

I think at your dog's age and weight this might be the perfect answer. This is what I would probably be looking at if my Nanner lost a leg.

Re: Walkin' Wheels with elderly rear leg amputee Black Lab
My 12 year old white shepherd Tara recently had her leg amputated for bone cancer. After the amputation, we were going to do chemotherapy to buy her some time, but her kidney tests were not good so we were unable to do the chemo. That was 5 months ago and Tara is hanging in there. I am also considering the dog wheels but do not know if there are a lot of vendors or just this one....do you have any info on that?
Best,
Sue
