Johanna's leg must go

Post by Paul Coover »

Well, Johanna's leg needs to go. The vet said that keeping her leg would only cause the possibility of future infections, so it would be best for her to lose the leg. It really doesn't do much now anyway, and we know she won't care. AT least one thing is certain- she won't get any more leg infections!

Our Jojo is so special, now she will be even more special. There aren't too many 2 legged doxies out there, so now she is just going to be even that more special. Jojo is now resting for her surgery, which will take place at 9AM tomorrow. I will post after I hear about how she is doing.

OK, so Johanna is home from the vet. She is her usual self, happy and crazy. So, a few things about Jojo's ordeal.

First, the vet gave me meds for her pain. I said, "what pain? I mean, if she can be happy with a broken leg, do you think she minds what you did to her?" I took the meds anyway, but I don't think she will need any of it.

So, now about the amputation. Jojo is the 2 legged dachshund now, well, actually she is the 2 and a half legged doxie. SHe had only half of her leg taken off, right at the joint where she broke it. it will help keep her in the cart now, which was something we were worried about.

So, Johanna is doing well after her surgery. Thanks for all of the well wishes from everyone!

Personally, I LOVE it when the vets Rx pain meds, even though not every SCI critter needs them; how far we've come from the days of assuming NOBODY needed them!! Glad she could keep enough of it to help keep her in her cart; that'd probably be a tough problem to solve.

What a picture....is she still comfortable and not in any pain? How soon will you be able to put her back in her chair?
Sending the best healing thoughts and prayers I can for your little girl.

That girlie has been through more than anybody I've ever heard of! She's sure a tough one, and, amazingly, still so sweet.

Jojo enjoyed the day in her cart today all day. The vet said she is doing perfect. She has had no pain or complications at all. I think nothing will ever stop her! If she lost all of her legs she would just roll around on the floor happy!
