Any ideas for hardening skin please?

Ralphs used his prosthetic legs for 3 years now, bless but he does get a blister now and then which must be very sore for him.

What we need is something to callous up the tender area. He tends to lick it which just softens it and makes it more vulnerable.

Anyone know of anything we can use please to harden the skin.

Hi hethmar (nice to see you!),

I really know nothing about this. My first thought was, could you contact the person who made the prosthetics and see if he recommends a product? My next thought was, maybe your dog needs to be checked to see if something needs to be refitted? Perhaps his body has changed, or perhaps the materials in the prosthetics have worn or changed shape and no longer fit him as well? I just watched a great video for humans that said a weight change of (only) 5 lbs in an adult man can change the fit of a lower limb prosthesis.

I do see a product that may or may not be appropriate. I would not try it without asking a vet or the prosthetecist. It is called Tuf-Foot and it says it can be used on dog's feet, and that human amputees "use Tuf-Foot to relieve chafing and discomfort caused by prosthetic devices".

Here is the email for Dr. Heath:

These are some pet prosthetics places if you want to email them and see if they sell anything for blisters.

Hope this helps a little bit? :)

You must contact with the person who made this prosthetic legs. You must have to discuss with him because he is the manufacturer and can give you the better suggestion.
