Post by Storm922 »

Hello
I have a yellow lab named Samson. He had his left back leg removed at the hip due to a bone infection... His other leg has arthritis and calcium in his hock... His leg is slowly giving out. He is the most amazing dog. He has just turned 9.. He is always happy.. We are trying to prolong his life as long as he is happy... I am trying to find some one to talk to about have a large breed dog with a drag bag inside a house. We have a wheel chair for his walk and play outside... I do not want to lose this amazing dog because of his back leg. Please help

Thank you and have a great day

:slant: Hang on! People will be coming. I was just wondering if a walking aid (sling, etc) would help?

Have you tried any kind of medication, like Rimadyl or anything? (You probably have, just asking...)

There are splints and braces, here are just some examples.

Here is a hock wrap. I have not tried it and do not know if it would be appropriate.

Someone here very recently said they bought a drag bag for their large dog and it was in the weight range but did not give the dog enough room. I'm thinking that might mean buy a larger size than you think you need? Or at least check the return policy?

There used to be a 117 lb Akita here named Rajah, and they used kid's foot pajamas for her. :D

Here is something similar.

You could also make your own drag bag, here is an example (scroll down a ways).

If possible, it might be worthwhile to get him an appointment with a canine rehab therapist, to see if they might be able to fit him with something that would support the leg, or to ask if there are some exercises you might do to improve his comfort and mobility. I don't know if they could help, it's just an idea.

What kind of floors do you have?
