Canine Epileptoid Cramping Syndrome.

If anyone would like to compare notes and experience on this type of Epilepsy, I would like to hear from you. Having lived with my Boy Pug Duke for 10 years with this type of unusual Syndrome, it'll be good to share.

Yowzer, Sharon, in the many years I have been here, I don't recall ever reading about that?

You may be our resident expert.

Can you tell us the symptoms, the onset and any causation you may be aware of?

What are teh treatments? Are they similar to epilepsy on the main?

Hi Gabriel...

I thought I would put this Post on to pay forward the help I have have had with his Sister Duchess who has a paralysis problem, until I met this Forum and advice, I thought there is nothing I can do for her, NOW, I have a handicapped but happy Pug snoring on my chair, in fact, I have just put a Pic of her on FB.

I digress, CECS dogs are different, I have had Epi dogs. Epi Dogs have fits, thrashing around, CECS Dogs pace a lot, if you catch them in time you can divert their attention but you have to be PDQ. I give 10mgs of Rectal Valium, stroke his head, normally he comes "back" within 7 minutes, drunk as as a Skunk.

Of course, it is frightening for any dog owner when it happens, my Husband freaks out, I say, don't worry, been here before. We learn as we live don't we?

If you visit "never thought about this ..." forum you'll see a world of research on seizure and CCD I rescue LW aussies and on my fried hard drive, have a world of research on aussie seizure, which they are prone to.

If you don't 'catch' them, do they seize as other seizures might present?

My Allicks had a grand mal. Possum may have had them most of 24/7 we don't know, but the research is in the link above.

CECS sounds almsot favorable to a full seizure?

Hi Gabriel

Thank you for the Link which I will visit after this message.

The seizure presents itself as a rigid dog unable to move, sometimes losing bladder/bowel control, at times vomiting preceeds the seizure. All muscles are totally cramped. I would say it is favourable to a grand mal in that it isn't so "violent". I had never heard of CECS until I researched on a Epilepsy sight. I went into it as my Vet in the UK couldn't fathom out what was happening. My Duke is the first dog I have come across with this issue.

Hi is not on daily Meds. as the bouts are infrequent maybe 7/8 a year maximum.

Hugs to your Dogs.

Off to have a look...
Sharon

I am so thankful to be able to learn from your exp. It really sounds like a bad ordeal.

There are a lot of various seizure & aggression links in poor Possum's thread at:

viewtopic.php?f=14&t=10816

And while she lost her battle (soooo many issues going on), I learned so much from her and she did have a small amount of happiness for way tooooo shot a time. My heart will always break when I think of Poor Pitiful Beautiful Possum.

Hi and thank you for your reply.

I read through your Possum's thread and yes heartbreaking but you did it!! You gave her some good and happy days never forget that, it was worth your combined struggle. I hope in time you will remember the good days and smile at the memories, instead of your heart breaking.

I send good wishes and peace in your Heart in knowing you done a good job.

Hugs.
