AllicksBlindPup seized.

Post by GabrielDeafBlindPupFamily »

I don't know for how long, but she is awake now. Totally non responsive, on her side, legs in running motions. Opened critters canine epilepsy link. Can you give me some quick advice? Just awoke from a deadsleep.

A few hours later, just about back to 'normal' she spent a time walking walking walking map totally gone, bumping into things, getting stuck behind furniture, but she seems okay now. Went flying to land on bed, but estimated too short. Her post-ictal did not last too long at all. Chris will be spending day with her...

Hmm. Personally, I'd go for meds; at the very least, I'd make sure to have them around in case of a more serious seizure (longer lasting, more than 1 in a row, etc). Can seizures/brain damage be a part of the "Lethal White" syndrome, or could this be something different?

I believe so-seizures. No brain damage, that dog is brilliant. Aussies are prone to canine epilepsy, according to your oh-so-helpful link.
I was all over aussielads in the middle of the night, but could not find Lorraine's Q&As. Will look again today. She is fine this morning, and Chris is home with her.

Sage, my eldest dog had seizures from about age 8-12. Then they stopped. The were never frequent. I think the most she had was 4-6 a year, but when they happened they sure scared the phoey out of me.

I have no idea why she had them, and I have no idea why they stopped. Just thankful that they did.

Have you been able to identify why she has them? Is this her first? I know I comforted Sage as she came out of the seizure to help her reconnect with her surroundings. I talked to her in a calm voice and patted her.

Would phenobarbatol (sp?) be helpful for her?

Let us know how she is doing.

The causes I have found so far for seizures:
Hydroencephaly
Brain Damage
Birth Defect
Epilepsy
Low Blood Sugar

Have also found some good sites. Still looking. I have ruled out encephaly, brain damage, birth defect.
A few days ago, I said outloud, Allicks you feel like you have a fever.
I imagine, like humans, a fever can result in seizure, altho I don't remember her being hot during the seizure, but I don't know for sure if she was or was not.

Hi, Karen -
Just came across this thread, thinking it might help us with Caramel. Ironically, it was the "siezures" that convinced us to take him in for an extra check-up. It's been going on for about 6 months - it started when he fell off the bed in the middle of the night (we attributed the fall to his increasing blindness - brought on by the cataracts). We've noticed that they seemed to happen when anything "traumatic" happened. The vet said they aren't actually siezures - I can't remember what he called them - sorry. They do sound quite a bit like what you described. The vet says that the lymphomas are pressing on his windpipe and when he gets excited, his heart can't supply oxygen to his blood fast enough. Boy, getting old stinks!
How are things going now with your girl? Any more information from the vet?

She tested normal, but one good tip I did get was to keep ice cream or something sweet handy. I have not seen one since, but she is a lethal white australian shepherd, and is susceptible to a couple of things, one of which is seizures...
So far so good!
Thank you for your post! I will be watching those things if she has another episode.
