Gus is at the same shelter as Ranger and Nova were. Jan the shelter volunteer that requested that this be posted was the one that was so helpful with getting information on Ranger and Nova. She paid the $50 to get them released and wouldn't even let me pay her back.
Jan has a very big heart. :)
Gus is likely a relative of Ranger's. They have the same coloring and even look a lot a like. I know that they say Gus is a Greyhound but I only see shepherd in him.
If anyone is interested I have developed contacts in Indianapolis which is only 2 hours away from Madison. Right after Sue decided to bring them to Kansas CIty Kathy at Keystone Pet Hospital set me up with a lady that was going to transport them. SO, it is very doable !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! /Jean

Jan said they took Gus for a vet visit and this is what they discovered:

"Gus is at least 7 years old and has cataracts. He is probably completely blind in one eye, and mostly in the other."

Oh, Gus is an older "gentleman". I love older dogs. Lots of people will only adopt older dogs. There are so many benefits to adopting these senior citizens. One is that their personalities are all ready evident and my favorite is that many are couch potatoes.
Thor my 75# Lab that I adopted last summer from the HS is 7 1/2 now. Now, that guy is a couch potato. :) When he spreads out on the floor for his nap it is almost impossible to get around him. But, he is the best dog with my cats and is such a devoted doggy. He appreciates everything that you do for him and he has the most soulful eyes. I think because he lost everything he appreciates even the little things in life.
I'm going to talk to Jan the volunteer from the AS and see if she can come on and tell us more about this WONDERFUL older fellow./Jean

Here are some good rescue links for a pup such as Gus:

www.blinddogs.net

http://www.netpets.com/dogs/dogresc/bre ... breed.html
This includes a list for senior dogs

http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/Lind ... dPupGroup/

http://www.petswithdisabilities.org/

http://www.givemepaw.com/mainpage/home/ ... rescue.htm
CODA who does go out of state

I have more links for deaf blinds.

We are presently dealing with 2 dogs whose immediate future is very much in question. One is under my own roof.

GUS is going to Happy Labs rescue in Columbus Indiana!!
They are working out the details with the shelter manager.

Wow, I am so glad Gus is safe. I saw him listed on specialneedspets as urgent. When I clicked their link it took me to dogsindanger and said he had til August 8th. When I clicked back on August 8th or 9th he was listed in the category in memory of. I am so glad to hear he was saved. Maybe his name should be changed to Lazarus. Diana
