Atlanta--12, including 4 special needs

Post by critters »

A friend of mine, Joan, is trying to help her friend, Cathy, who is desperately searching for homes for 12 fully vetted cats who on 15 April will find themselves homeless. The Pentecostal church in Atlanta Georgia is forcing their disabled tenant/employee to 'get rid of' their cats, all of whom were rescues and have lived with their parents most of their lives. These cats are all fully vetted and have been lovingly cared for all their lives with this couple.

Four of these cats are mildly special needs with slight medical problems. The couple is heartbroken to realize that if they cannot place these four cats, they will be euthanized. The four special needs cats, with picture and bio are below and in the attached word document.

Please cross post this email so that this couple in their sadness of losing their furchildren will not have to live with the knowledge that their babies were killed. They only have until 15 April 2010.

thank you. /mari

The Pentecostal church is forcing their tenant/employee to get rid of their 12 fully vetted cats from their home where many have been in residence for four years. We only have until April 15th, 2010.

The tenant was given choice of loss of his job & home or lose the cats.

Since the employee is disabled, moving combined with loss of income is just not an option. He and his wife realize the cats with medical problems will most likely have to be euthanized but are hoping homes or rescues can take in some of their other pets. Their vet will confirm all are fully vetted and that this couple has taken very good care of their kitties. Two have been placed so far through networking but the rest only have a few weeks or they will have to be euthanized or surrendered to animal control.

Sabrina, a very petite 5 year old cat (about 5-6 lbs.) - has recurrent herpes of the tongue and associated URI symptoms- she receives 1 x month steroid shot plus Clindamycin for this. She has never been treated with Viralysis, though, but the owner has recently added lysine powder to her food. She appears to have possibly had a good response but has not been on it very long..

She follows her owners around the house and loves to play with small crumpled up pieces of paper. She is very affectionate and loving; combo tested, and up to date on shots.

Tommy, 3 years old, has a history of urinary crystals which culminated in two urinary tract infections. Since being placed on grocery store urinary tract formula food a little over year ago, he has had no other problems. He is very affectionate, loves to sit atop things and roll on his back.

Jake was the only little kitten at the pet store when Cathy first saw him 10 years ago. Jake was crying so loudly that Cathy, who had gone into the store with her son in law for bird food, could not forget him. She went back to the store and brought him home. He rode all the way in the car in her hair, and stayed in the bedroom, sleeping on her pillow for over six months before he would venture into the rest of the house. Cathy says he has an uncommon depth of expression in his eyes – a very intense cat who longs for attention from the ones he loves. Jake loves to give kisses on the nose – if you bend over, Jake will come up to meet you and give you kisses.

Jake has a condition the vet termed "spastic bowel" and receives a cortisone shot 1 x month to control it. He has some urgency at times but is litter box trained. He has been on a higher fiber diet the last few days and this appears to have helped him also.

Miracle was found as a very small kitten abandoned in a ditch. It was a cold, rainy day. Cathy and her husband nursed Miracle and his little sister Fluffy through the night. Miracle almost died. Miracle loves to sit in Cathy’s lap, and snuggles his nose in the crook of her arm. He will sleep that way. He has loose stools controlled by oral medication 2 x day. They have never tried fiber or pumpkin for Miracle. He also seems to be improving from the recent introduction of a higher fiber, better quality pet food (the cats were previously on grocery store brands.).

If you or someone you know can help, please let Cathy know. Transport is available, even distance transport could most likely be arranged. We only have about two weeks and the special needs kitties will be euthanized. This just makes me so sick when these cats have a loving, indoor home and are not bothering anyone.

Hi there,

I read your post on Handicapped Pets re. the kittens that have only until April 15. I am hoping you can provide a little info about Miracle ie DOB, what “loose stool” entails and attach any pics, if you have any.
