No. VA, URGENT - Chaz, heart murmur kitty, needs a miracle

Post by RenaRF »

Hi everyone. A good samaritan independently rescued Chaz from a kill shelter. His backstory was tragic, which makes how wonderful and loving he is that much more amazing. At some point in Chaz's life, he was TNR'd in a trap neuter return program. This is usually reserved for feral cats, but Chaz is far from feral - he's totally friendly. He has the eartip to show that part of his life. We think he was probably someone's pet who was abandoned and found his refuge in a feral colony.

At any rate, a family "found" Chaz. It's not clear if they wanted to keep him and couldn't or what - but he was with them for six weeks and then they turned him over to a rural kill shelter. The good samaritan pulled him out, thinking she would get him vetted and them move him into a nonprofit rescue.

Chaz is neutered, combo negative for FIV/FeLV, and up to date on his shots. He's 5-6 years young. During his vetting, however, the vet discovered a grade 4 of 6 heart murmur. They couldn't tell much else and recommended Chaz get a proper echocardiogram so that we could pin down his cardiac status. I assisted with raising funds for the specialist, and Chaz had his ECG today. I should have the results back in 2-3 days. It could be that he just has a heart murmur, and with a little bit of weight management and a good home, he either outgrows it or just lives with it without trouble. Or, it could be that there's something there that requires medication for Chaz. Either way, we're going to know.

BUT. His good samaritan can't keep him. Because he has a potential heart issue, she also can't mainstream him into any rescues. I'm running out of time, because she has to find some kind of solution for him in the next week, by Friday March 22 at the very, very latest (and I'll have to beg on that). SO. I'm looking for anyone who would like to have this SWEET heart kitty, either in a rescue or as a direct adoption. He deserves better than to be forced back into a shelter or to a feral colony after all the turmoil he's obviously experienced. He should distrust people - but he doesn't. And he gets along well with the good samaritan's other cat!!

Can you help? He is located in N. VA, but where there's a will, there's a way and we can figure out transport if needed. PLEASE help Chaz. He's come too far to be cast aside yet again!!

I am the contact - renarf@comcast.net

My Vet told me that in the past he would routinely refer cats with heart murmurs to a specialist. But, now, that is not the case since they are seen with murmurs on a routine basis. I'm glad you had this fellow seen by a Specialist. Hopefully, he doesn't have an underlying heart condition and can find a loving home. He sure deserves to find his forever home!!
