Name: Canelo

Canelo came into our foster care program after he was advocated for by the shelter staff at Pima County. He had been surrendered to the shelter when he became paralysed due to a herniated disc issue. His former family was unable to care for him or provide for his new needs.

Canelo was severely overweight and had some very bad urine burns on his sensitive belly when he arrived. His foster mom has gotten his weight down and his burns are all healed. He's been fitted with a custom wheelchair courtesy of Joeys Paw and is doing great. This lucky pup has come a very long way!

Canelo has taken to his new wheels like a champ and is now looking for a home! He can be picky about new people and will get snarky, but he's just insecure with new people and new things. It takes him a minute to recognise that new people aren't out to hurt him and then he's very sweet and bonds quickly.

Canelo does have specific daily care needs due to his mobility issues. He no longer has control over his bladder and bowels and uses doggy diapers. He's basically a human toddler who can't walk just yet. Wheelchair pups can live long and fulfilling lives with the appropriate care.
