Remember Valentina and her litter of puppies who were born in rescue this past February ?

Well sweet lad Guylian from her litter has still not found his own person . Mom, sisters and brother all found families of their own but Guylian is still searching.

This 5 month old nugget (or pawsibly pomchi like mom was mostly on her DNA test) was born with some differences that his siblings were not born with which has been making it more difficult for us to find him the right home who will understand his needs. But he was born in the right rescue where we celebrate differences because we think that differences make us unique and beautiful

Guylian has abnormal coordination of movements. Dysmetria to be more specific. Dysmetria is a sign of cerebellar damage, and often presents along with additional signs, such as loss of balance and poor coordination of walking, and eye movements. Guylian is very fast in his body as you can see in the videos, but he can and will lose his balance often. He falls sometimes, he folds his little feet under and trips, and runs into things. He learns to handle things really well, but his brain and body do not function properly so if you let your guard down he could easily be leaping to his death off of the couch or walk into a cactus if he is not monitored closely. This is not something that will go away . This is just how sweet silly Guylian is. Which is why he needs the RIGHT home who will understand his needs.

Guylian also does not appear to have control of when he is peeing or pooping. He knows when he's going but doesn't seem to know until it's happening. This is easily managed by wearing a diaper or belly band in the house. Also keeping him on a normal diet and feeding schedule will help you to understand his schedule to bring him outside for poop time. UPDATE: He is doing MUCH better but we would not consider him housetrained and this will be an ongoing process

He is great with people, though he can be shy at first. He is GREAT with all dogs he's met ( his foster home has 6 ranging from 5-75lbs).

The vet has recommended a home with one other calm dog, NO STAIRS, and NO ACCESS TO A POOL or anything he can fall into and hurt himself/drown. To easily break it down - He should not have access to anything or any environment that a toddler child should not be around. .

He has his own pen in his foster home where he can be safe and play with toys or take a nap during times his foster family is unable to monitor him because they are sleeping or need to step away.

This boy loves hard and has no idea he's any different than any other dog he meets. He is a normal boy who just needs a special family to understand that he does things his own way and to make sure he is safe and happy.

Umbrella of Hope does not have any strict rules on ages of children because all children are different, but our best approximation is that this animal would do best with children over the age of 5
Umbrella of Hope is an all-volunteer, donation-run, non-profit animal rescue based out of Pittsburg, CA that rescues animals from local shelters, places them in private foster homes, provides them with needed medical care and then finds them new homes.
Also, ask us about our seniors for seniors program, where we adopt animals 5 years or older to qualified homes with a $5 donation as an adoption fee. All animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, treated for parasites and given any additional treatments (dental work, bloodwork etc) as recommended by our vet.
Adoptions to veterans of the US Armed Services are ALWAYS free to thank you for your service.
