DODIE
You will find me an incredibly sweet-natured and calm dog. I am a Spitz mix, 1-1/2 yrs old. I stand 16 inches at the shoulder and weigh 20 lbs.

It is unknown what originally happened to me. My back legs are paralyzed though, but I have an awesome wheelchair that I LOVE to zip around in, especially outside. Walks are my favourite thing. I enjoy saying hello to every dog I see (and human!) And I absolutely adore meeting new friends. I'm a great walking companion and my foster is still figuring out my limits. Currently, I take two 30 min walks a day, this seems ideal, until I can build up a bit more strength. Given a moderate energy level, I'm sure I'd like to do more yet.

I walk at a great pace and sometimes get little zoomie energy and like to have a bit of a run! Otherwise, I like to take time to sniff the flowers look up at the birds flying overhead. If I get a little distracted, a little bit of a push is all I need to continue!

I would love to have a dog companion, there's nothing I love more than the company of other dogs and would gain some confidence in having a friend. I have gotten along well with every single dog I have met on my walks, even understanding when another dog may be a bit unsure about my snazzy wheels and might not be interested in a stop n sniff. Never been around cats, so can't say how I'd feel about them. Kids would probably be fun if they are old enough to know how to treat me well.

It's also best if I have a yard or at least some safe space to maneuver outside, as I find it easier to toilet while in motion.

You'll notice some scarring on my feet from wounds that likely occurred from dragging my feet on rough terrain and/or chemical burns in the past.

My two main ways of moving myself around, (and I must say I'm pretty darn good at it!) is either dragging on my side/hip or pulling myself forwards in a sort of 'hopping' motion with my legs behind me. I can get some serious speed this way! A drag bag might be a good investment. LALDR should be able to provide that support.

I may be in control of my bladder and bowels, but until I am properly settled it's unsure just how much. More adjustment time may be needed to understand where to go and time to make my way outside.

I am extremely adaptable and very trusting off the bat, which is rare in a dog that has been through so much. My past is a mystery, but spending some time in Canada has already opened up my world despite a few medical ailments (getting her feet healed up) and having to wear a dreaded cone!! Please note my adorable face and sometimes when I stretch, I'll snort a bit like a pig. Yup, I'm really quite the character. Ok, I do sometimes snore, but it is the cutest thing ever. And I am learning about toys and how much fun they are: https://youtu.be/-KBzykd_RF0.

I like to listen to 'calming doggy music' to get off to sleep - once I hear it I begin to settle. It's quite remarkable I'm told.

Since arriving in Canada from the Middle East and experiencing a whole new country, new people, new surroundings AND new language - I seem to slowly be picking up "on your bed!" to go and lie down. I also seem to understand my name "Dodie" when called.

I will soon be spayed/neutered, but am currently *vaccinated & micro-chipped.

My adoption fee is $650.00 CAD + applicable taxes.
