Tearing up as I post this as I have really bonded with Shem.
• Name: Shem
• Male or female? Male
• Approximate Age: 5 months
• Breed: Golden Retriever / Cavalier Mix
• Weight: ~ 30 lbs
• Any impairments: Megaesophagus (ME)
Please do your research before applying.
Shem is just like all puppies with the exception that he needs to eat and drink in an upright position best using a special type of chair called a Bailey chair. Dogs diagnosed with megaesphagus can not swallow and gravity is the only way to pass food and water to their stomach. Shem will need a special family that will be committed to feeding him in an upright position and keeping him upright for gravity to do its work, this takes about 15-20 min. Shem can not consume anything without risk of regurgitating it back up if not kept upright.

Hi Everyone!
My name is Shem! I am originally from Ohio, but wanted to move to Michigan to begin my life. I moved in with my foster family who I knew would take care of me, begin to help me gain weight, and socialize with other friends. I love to cuddle, and play with other dogs and humans.
Something about me that you should know is that although I am EXTREMELY handsome I do have megaesophagus (thanks mom & dad). Although this seems scary, my foster mom has been able to learn about this and help me, and I’m sure she can help you understand. She says I’m doing great and I am gaining weight!
My favorite treats include occasional ice cubes and a licky stick because I cannot have treats as I can choke. So instead my favorite things are to cuddle and I love squeaker toys.
My foster mom is working on some basic commands with me right now. So far I have learned: no, come, potty.
If you have read about me this far I hope that you will consider me to be a part of your family. I promise to love you forever and give you the best cuddles.
Love,
Shem
