CH Kittens in NYC need homes

From the top: Kazoo, Dizzy, and Jello

A volunteer at BARC gets to meet all kinds of animals. From the biggest meanest looking pitbull to the tiniest handicapped kitten, all have a chance at a new life at BARC. We recently found these three kittens in the gutter around the corner from the shelter. Sadly, these kind of "dumps" are not unusual, but finding these clean, friendly kittens inside the typical cardboard box was! They have a condition known as cerebellar hypoplasia that was passed on to them from their mother before they were born. You can read about the condition HERE, and there is a wonderful group called the CH Kitty Club HERE. They are in good health but need extra care to insure they are fed properly and their kennel is kept clean. Dizzy, Kazoo and Jello are affectionate and playful and were obviously well-loved by someone. Another abandonment mystery that will never be solved.

Dizzy is a tiger and white female. She stands and walks well, but often crashes and flips over. Incredibly, this doesn't slow her down at all! She's the most active and when the others have had enough, she's happy playing wth her toys.

Kazoo is the largest and the only male. He's also the steadiest on his feet and although he also occasionally flops, he walks and gets around very well. He likes to climb (!) and play with dangling toys. He follows me everywhere and is quite talkative.

Jello is smaller, a beautiful torbie, but catching up to her siblings and the most severely affected by CH. She can stand on her own, but not for very long and falls over when she tries to walk. This doesn't curtail her scooting across the floor to eat or play. The laser pointer is her favorite toy and it's helping build up her strength and coordination. She's resourceful and leans on the others and on props to play and get around.

Jello uses a low-sided litter tray and makes it almost every time. She's very tidy. The other two are having a harder time using the designated litter area, but we're working on that...LOL! It's a matter of trial and error to find the set-up that works best. Some CH cats prefer "weewee" pads, others like a covered box, another may like a low-sided tray. They all manage with shallow food and water bowls.

These three special ones are available for adoption through BARC and potential adoptors will have to fill out BARC's Adoption Forms HERE. At this time, I'm fostering them at my home, but will arrange personal meetings at the shelter in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Kazoo and Dizzy may move to the BARC Cat Loft soon as they get over their colds and get used to the litter box routine! Anyone interested in adoption should contact me first via email, not the shelter. BARC doesn't adopt their animals outside of the NYC area, but may consider wonderful homes outside the area for these special kittens. If you can't give them a home but want to help with their care you can be a sponsor. Go HERE for more information!
