Right side paralysis

Post by SSG88 »

Just a little background. My sweet Maggie Mae is a 4 year old yorkie.
Up until about 4 months ago she was very active and a spirited little girl.

The first sign of something was she lost control of her tongue. It would hang oddly from the side of her mouth or always be hanging out in the front just a little. We thought she had hanging tongue disorder and took her to the vet and he gave her antibiotics and a anti-inflamatory just in case. After about 3 weeks she progressively started to lose her vision. Her eyes would move rapidly from side to side and not be able to focus. She could not see in the dark and refused to be carried or put on the couch or bed (I think for fear of falling).
She started to pee all over the house, which wasn't typical.

(Now) After 4 months of the first signs. She now seems to have lost control of her right side. Her right eye is barely open, her right side legs barely function. I have only seen one bowel movement in a week. She struggles to walk. I can hear her toe nails drag as she moves to walk with her right legs

She did see a specialist who ran all kinds of blood work and blood pressure, ears and eyes. All came back negative.
I can not afford the MRI and cat scans.
She is currently on an anti-inflamatory but I think I am losing her.

I love this little girl and do not want her get worse. I just want to help her but I fear it may be too late.
I am pretty sure this is neurological and so does the vet but has anyone else been able to help a dog with these type symptoms??

Please, any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

It does sound like further diagnosis is the best hope. You could apply for a loan for veterinary care through www.carecredit.com. In all likelihood, the specialist hospital you went to will accept Care Credit and may have the application at their desk, or you can apply online. They let you know right away if you are accepted and most people I've known are accepted. The terms for paying it off are very good, and sometimes you do not have to start paying right away.
