Rosie My Service Dog Needs Urgent Surgery

Post by JCPII »

To whom it may concern,
I'm a disabled veteran living in Punta Gorda Florida.

Rosie, My Service Dog.. I've had Rosie since she was Eight weeks old.

Where I'm living, the management hired a new girl and she has been harassing me nonstop after her probation period ended.

She made claims Rosie was vicious this and I had everyone in my apartment complex sign the petition stating that Rosie has never raised her lip in anger, never chased anyone, never aggressively barked at anyone, and absolutely never never went after anyone aggressively.

Everyone here absolutely loves Rosie she is a Doberman and is the most lovable docile creature in the world and I'm not just saying that because she's my dog.
Everyone here absolutely loves her, they always pet her when they see her outside with me - She's never on a leash that wouldn't impede her service duties..

I have called several attorneys. I can't get anyone to help me regarding filing complaints and or law suits against the complex for harassing myself and Rosie by the apartment complex management.

I've called the Florida Bar Association for referrals and to no avail attorneys either never call back or if one does they don't want to engage or get involved I absolutely don't understand why.

I've got everything documented including police case file number's, videos, recordings you name it.

The management demanded Rosie be spade. My attorney was out of town, when he got back he told me sine Rosie is a Service Dog she is exempt from this rule. "IT'S EVEN IN THE LEASE!"
I had had her spade the day before not knowing this.

Now Rosie is very sick after being spade at Twelve years old..

"""Rosie is in desperate need of surgery for a mass on her breasts (belly) cost aproxmitly $1,300.. AND possibly a second for a bone tumor pinching a nerve in her spine causing weakening her rear legs."""

"The mass on Rosie’s belly needsto be removed immediately before it causes cancer and goes directly to her brain!"

Then Rosie’s doctor will address the issue with Rosie’s spine....

""Rosie absolutely does NOT have hip dysplasia...""
Rosie’s doctor verified this VIA x-rays (Thank God).

Rosie’s doctor said Rosie’s her spinal surgery would have to be done by a specialist, a neurologist if I'm not mistaken. That will be about $6,500.. to $7000...

I'm disabled on a very extremely limited income and waiting on my disability from the VA however it's taking longer than originally anticipated by my attorney.

When I get my back pay, I will absolutely be happy to donate for someone else that may be in need!

Rosie’s veterinarian (Port Charlotte Fl Animal Hospital) has been very kind with Rosie’s billing knowing my circumstances and has been very generous.

They don't always charge me full price is is so very kind of them and rare to find a doctor as I have.
I don't don't know what I would do if it wasn't for them.....

The whole office staff are so polite and Rosie’s doctor's take all the time I need when I have questions.
No one has ever rushed me out the door!

Now I'm faced with possibly having to move at the end of the month however I'm desperately trying to get a Two month extention.

Please contact me with any questions for any information you need.
I don't know witch way to turn.

AGAIN, I have everything documented.

Have a Blessed day!

Hi Joe,

I am sorry to see Rosie is having some health issues. It is not unusual for a large dog to have some mobility problems at her age. That is pretty common, she is in good company. If she was my dog, personally I would not be considering spinal surgery at age 12. At that age I would just look at making life easier for her with a good support sling or a wheelchair, not doing surgery.

I would hesitate over removing the mammary masses, too. You need to find out from the vet what kind of masses they appear to be and how quickly they are likely to grow. If they are bulky enough to cause her discomfort, that is another consideration. A doberman's lifespan is about 10-13 and if she is 12, I would think twice before doing surgery to remove the masses. Mammary masses in dogs are not necessarily a 5-alarm fire, like they are in cats, she may be able to just live out her normal lifespan with them and pass of something else (old age). If you do surgery you are talking about anesthesia, which is always risky, and can be very hard on aging kidneys. If I could avoid it, I definitely would. I would ask the vet how urgent it really is. It may not be that urgent to do anything about the masses, let's hope not.

Have you tried anti-inflammatory medication to help her mobility? It is very likely she has some arthritis and something flared up during her nail trim or other activity. I would try that first to see if you can get some improvement on the mobility. It may help a lot.

You may want to consider a wheelchair to help her mobility if the problem continues. And a good sling is a godsend when they are at this age. Have you looked at the slings that are available? Here is a link.

Hello
I appreciate your reply.

Rosie absolutely does NOT have hip dysplasia. Slight arthritis at the very worst.

The mass on her breasts are from the spade and hormone imbalance. Rosie was in perfect health before she was spade. Please reread the post your may have missed the part where this was forced upon us.

Fair Housing Complaints have been filed and they are taking action against all involved for discrimination against disabled person's act.

The mass has to be removed, test have already been done however to be sure Rosie will be okay while under during surgery.

The mass is very uncomfortable and causing some pain to her belly. if it's not removed and is cancerous, it will spread to her brain and kill her.

I've already done all the research and she has the best vet I could have asked for.

The spinal surgery is not a definite until the mass is removed.

Thank you in advance.

Ps..
The vet Rosie has now is NOT the veterinarian who performed the spade!

This vet would never have done the spade.

Have you tried looking up some financial aid organizations? You may be able to find some on google.

Here is an organization that provides financial assistance for senior dobermans.

http://www.doberman911.org/

Here is an organization that helps dog owners pay for cancer treatment.

I do not know if this gentleman can be of any help, but he is a retired Army chaplain specializing in veterans and service dogs. I think he is in Tennessee but his group tries to work throughout the country. I do not know if he can be of any help with the medical or legal problems, but he gives his email address so he must be willing to be contacted:
