Baby duckling struggling

Post by Wildfire »

We just hatched ducklings..they hatched yesterday and today. It took one about 48 hours to hatch. He was the first to pip but stayed in the same spot for 2 days while the others hatched around him. He hatched sometime last night or early this morning. I just removed his siblings from the incubator as they are all fluffy and very active. He is less active and not fully dry so I left him in the Bator with one pipped egg. He seems weaker and I am worried that being alone in Bator could stress him out overnight. Should I put him in the brooder with his siblings?

:whale: Hmm. We never had access to incubators, brooders, etc, so I really have no idea. I guess I'd go with the siblings, unless they might hurt the baby. Is the baby eating and drinking? What did you decide to do, and how did it turn out? Is the baby OK?

Gave him 12 extra hours in bator then had him join sibs. He is still smaller and weaker but doing much better. Thank you for the reply!

Sounds great! I guess you know that it's dicey for all babies, much less one who has struggled, but it sounds promising!
