Def and mentally challenge cat won't go in the litter box

Blind and deaf pets can live happy, healthy, quality lives. In fact, sometimes it's hard to tell them from sighted pets. They do, though, have their own special needs.

Def and mentally challenge cat won't go in the litter box

Post by Alguyer71 »

I have a 1 yr old female cat. She has had a rough go of life from the start. I had to bring her back to life 3 times as a young kitten. She developed a cyst on her head at 3 months old. The during that time, I feel the pressure and infection affected her head control. At this time she was still going in the litter box. Once the cyst burst, I put her on an antibiotic. This did not help with her motor skills control. Since that time, she went thru a period of several seizures. Once the seizures stopped, she would no longer go in the litter box. She goes around it and close to it. Very rarely will she go in the box. She will smell it but turn away from it. She walks in circles quit often. Especially when she needs to go potty. I don't want to put her down but if I can't get her to go in the box, I'm going to have to. Anyone have any suggestions, solutions or would want to take her?

I had a very senior kitty who had trouble climbing in the box and was going next to it. I just bought puppytraining pads and put them on the floor around the box, with the weight of the box kind of anchoring them in place, and she went on those. It might be worth a try, it worked for my cat. :) Well actually, they weren't puppytraining pads, they were human incontinent pads (called Underpads, find them in the adult diapers section of stores like Wal-Mart and Walgreens) but they were like puppytraining pads, only a little bigger. We bought the Large which are 23" x 36", but they also have XL that are 30" x 36".

I have 1, also brain damaged, who has no concept of what a litter box is for. You might try putting some of her poop and pee (or a sibling's) into the box for a hint. You might also try Cat Attract litter http://www.amazon.com/Precious-Cat-Attr ... at+attract ; he also has an additive other kinds of litter http://www.amazon.com/Precious-Cat-Litt ... at+attract .
