Has Anyone had experience with a Total Ear Canal Ablation??

Blind and deaf pets can live happy, healthy, quality lives. In fact, sometimes it's hard to tell them from sighted pets. They do, though, have their own special needs.

Has Anyone had experience with a Total Ear Canal Ablation??

Post by MissWhiskers »

I just referred a friend to this web site, so hopefully she will be along later, today, maybe. Her issue is about her dog's recurring ear infections which nothing has completely resolved -- and now this procedure is being recommended. It's called a Tubular Ear Canal Ablation, T. E. C. A.
So, first of all, would this be an appropriate forum for us to be posting in?? If not, which would be better?
If so, has ANYONE had experience with this procedure? Or with ongoing ear infections (dog) that nothing seems to fix??
PLEASE share as soon as you can as I believe she is trying to decide on this procedure and probably doesn't have much time before she should schedule it.
Thanks for any input you can give!

:whale: to your friend! I have 2 boys (cats) who were supposed to have 3 TECAs between them. This is supposed to be unheard of in cats, but mine don't read the textbooks. Before scheduling all that, because it's such drastic surgery, I took them to a specialist, who rebuilt the canals rather than ablating them. As a bonus, it was much cheaper. I know it doesn't help any, but I firmly believe that this is a case where several opinions may be useful.

Thank you Critters. I wrote a longer reply several days ago, but it vanished in thin air - which always makes me angry. I passed on that input you gave. Last I knew she was not going to opt for the TECA and was getting some improvement with medication - though I believe she had said that meds have helped before - for awhile, and then they don't.

Thanks,
Karen
