Introducing Lucy - Blind Jack Russell Terrier

Blind and deaf pets can live happy, healthy, quality lives. In fact, sometimes it's hard to tell them from sighted pets. They do, though, have their own special needs.

Introducing Lucy - Blind Jack Russell Terrier

Post by blinddogs.net »

Hi all!

I just found the new message forum here.. and really like it!

We have a Jack Russell Terrier, Lucy... who went blind from SARDS (sudden acquired retinal degeneration syndrome) in September 2004.

Lucy has a web site with her story, and many other blind dogs friends... so please "surf" on by when you have a chance, and meet Lucy & friends... and be sure to view the *amazing* furkids available for adoption!

Welcome, LucyBlindPup! And her person, KarenG!

Post by GabrielDeafBlindPupFamily »

I love this place and it is so good to see you here! (typed hear - got tunnel brain)
We don't have a ton of blindpups here but when we get them, and we get cats, and whatnot, it is good to know what to do. I always link Shari's Hints page, as I have it saved to favorites!
Our pups sprout feathers and fly to a place mere seeing mortals can not even imagine.
So good to see you!

I knew you wouldn't want to miss reading about Angel & family! I'm off to update & add to the adoption pages.. but will be stopping by again when I can!

Lethal White Angel...

Post by GabrielDeafBlindPupFamily »

What a beautiful girl she is! These are indeed miracle puppies!
What a wonderful thing that she has her own site! When "Hands" gets back next week, I'll ask her to link Angel to Allicks & Gabriel's site.
I never get enough of these stories. These wonderful stories.
I'll share with Lorraine & Cyndi as well!
Thank you!

What a perfect name for her.

Hi Karen G.,

Your dogs are cute! Angel's story is on this website, too:

http://www.handicappedpets.com/gallery/ ... index.html

You could add your dogs to the Gallery if you like. Here is a link to the Main Gallery Page:

Thanks Carol C!

I added a picture to the gallery of Lucy & Holly in their fairy wings last Halloween.. but isn't up yet. I read that each visit to the Gallery earns funding for a great cause... so super... thanks for pointing that out to me!!

Hey... Karen A!!!

I've been working on a new "hints n' tips" page for blind dogs... I called the page it "101 blind dog tips & hints" when I first started it... but my brain was "drained" after 61 tips & hints.. so changed the name.. at least for now!

The link to the page is:
http://www.blinddogs.net/blind_dog_tips.html and I'll keep adding to it... so if you see anything I've missed to far please let me know!

Thanks! :-)

KarenG, this is EXCELLENT! I have bookmarked Shari's page so we don't have to re-invent the wheel each time, but this one is my new bookmark!
AllicksStinkyButt & GabrielDeafBlindBabyAngelBoy are both doin great!
I'll see if I can add anything to the list but it looks very comprehensive and we'll need to 'sticky' it.
Folks can make their own vests and collars with puff paint and a child's craft apron or bandana... if they don't want to buy one is all I would suggest...
Oh, #10 & #11, I would suggest as pup maps, you are on all fours with him, as this is TREMENDOUS fun for pup and you can slap door, floor, furniture with your key word: Ouch! or whatever...
#45, maybe introduce through a babygate for several days/weeks, or whatever...
#55 ABSOLUTELY! We booth at Petsmart every 3rd Sat. EDUCATION & RESCUE!
Wonderful and exhaustive work KARENG!

Karen A..... thanks for your help!!! :-)

I ended up adding most of your tips to their own separate lines, right below/above the original "tip" just because I've tried like crazy to keep each "tip" at one line... to prevent "me" from rambling on and on, LOL! ;-) The best news is.. there are now a few more tips... we might just get to 101... or even 1001 someday!

Please give hugs & sweet kisses to Allicks & Gabriel from us girls!

P.S. If you can watch videos??... I just put up a new video of Lucy teaching teenagers at the beach this weekend how to play her "own" version of volleyball. She "invited" herself to play as usual... <sigh> and her embarrassed "Mom" had to cue her back to chasing seagulls, to let the kids play "real" volleyball again... by themselves!

I didn't name her "I (Gotta) Love Lucy" for nothin', LOL! ;-)
