Great tips for hearing impaired pets!

Blind and deaf pets can live happy, healthy, quality lives. In fact, sometimes it's hard to tell them from sighted pets. They do, though, have their own special needs.

Great tips for hearing impaired pets!

Post by Qwerty »

My 20 year old kitty is severly hearing and sight impaired. She can maybe (?) hear an airhorn. She often walks into walls or gets stuck behind doors. Sometimes she finds herself under the dog, which seems to upset the both of them. She is an old pro at getting out of her bed, on the couch, and walking to her food dish in the kitchen, but sometimes she gets turned around on her way back and ends up at the top of the basement steps! This is scary. Because of the layout of our home a baby gate would be impractical so we've come up with an alternative solution. We purchased a very bright night light which we've plugged in above her food dish. It atomatically turns on when the room is dim. My kitty seems very content with the set up. We are also considering plugging in airfreshners along her route so she can smell where she is and not turn off course. Just thought this would be a helpful hint!

Those are GREAT tips!
You can also 'texturize' the different areas so kitty knows this is room a, this is room b!

Deaf-blindness is tough, but it sounds like you've thought it out thoroughly for your little girl!
